    The Position

    Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify fleet equipment comprised of a variety of light, medium, and heavy automotive and maintenance equipment, landscape equipment, computerized testing equipment, and diesel-fueled electric power generators.

    Under general supervision, incumbents perform the full range of duties described in the series concept to include journey level duties such as extensive electrical and fuel system diagnosis and repair work, rebuilding complete transmissions, converting surplus military vehicles to fire apparatus, and performing mechanical inspections of vehicles involved in accidents. Incumbents may provide training, work direction and review to semi-skilled equipment shop staff such as Equipment Mechanic I's, Fleet Service Workers, students, and inmate workers. This is the journey level in the series.

    The Mechanic II provides assistance in the Eastlake shop by purchasing parts, supplies and materials, as well as provides mechanical services for the vehicles and equipment of the various programs of the Nevada Division of Forestry in the Western Region. The Equipment Mechanic II at the Eastlake fleet repair facility is directly supervised by the Equipment Mechanic III. The Equipment Mechanic II will coordinate vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance scheduling with the Equipment Mechanic III through weekly meetings to ensure that our fleet vehicles are safe, reliable, and functional for our staff, and that they are presentable for the general public.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprentice-ship program; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-In-Training program in Nevada State service; OR one year experience as an Equipment Mechanic I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Applicants must attach verification of successful completion of an apprenticeship program and/or experienced gained through an apprenticeship program at the time of application. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. Some positions require incumbents to furnish their own mechanic's tools. In order to meet the needs of each agency, some positions may require specialized background, consistent with the parameters of the class specification. Some positions require a valid Class A or B commercial driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Positions in the Division of Forestry must pass a physical agility test, medical examinations, and background investigations provided by the agency. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law required random testing for controlled substances during employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level.
