    The Monitoring Unit in the Air Quality Analysis Section is a team dedicated to protecting the air that we breathe every day. You will work with stakeholders, industry, and other like-minded professionals to ensure that the quality of our valuable air resource is maintained, enhanced, and ensured for future generations. We respect and embrace the experiences, knowledge and contributions of our team members.

    This position will be located at 1659 East Elm Street, Jefferson City, Missouri, with the Air Pollution Control Program, Air Quality Analysis Section, Monitoring Unit.

    • Upload data to and analyze reports from EPA’s Air Quality Systems database.
    • Assist in Quality Assurance Project Plan reviews.
    • Attend trainings and conference calls on topics pertaining to Air Quality Monitoring.
    • Gain knowledge and understanding of the Clean Air Act 40 Code of Federal Regulations Part 58, Ambient Air Quality Surveillance .
    • Gain knowledge and understanding of EPA’s QA Handbook Volume 2 .
    • Perform evaluations of air monitoring sites and ensure they meet applicable criteria.
    • Assist with development of the Annual Air Monitoring Network Plan 2024 Monitoring Network Plan


    To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

    • Analysis and Assessment : Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
    • Manages and Organizes Information : Identifies a need; gathers, organizes, and maintains information; determines its importance and accuracy, and communicates it by a variety of methods.
    • Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
    • Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work. GIS experience preferred.


    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • Bachelor’s degree and 0-4 years of relevant experience. Preferred degree program would include the following: Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Meteorology, Physical Science, Natural Resource Management or a closely related field.
