    Senior Field Medic

    Part-Time Budgeted (50% Effort)

    $23.10/hour

    College Station, TX

    The TEEX Senior Field Medic administers lifesaving support care to sick and injured persons at the Brayton Fire Training Field and other sites as designated and authorized. Required to make important decisions concerning patient care and assessment. Some safety responsibilities are performed such as inspections of safety related tasks on the fire field.

    This position reports to the Program Coordinator II.

    Required Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Two years of experience working as a lead paramedic on an ambulance or with a fire department.


    Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
    • TDSHHS EMT - Paramedic.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • TCFP Firefighter - Basic.
    • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Six years of experience as an EMT/Paramedic.
    • Four years of experience as a TCFP Basic Firefighter.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat.
    • Ability to lift and/or move heavy objects.
    • Ability to drive a mini ambulance and/or mule.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Ability to maintain registrations, certifications, licenses and acquire additional training, experience and certifications as needed or required.
    • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff.
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
    • Working knowledge of office software and ability to manage patient care, documentation and patient records management.
    • Ability to comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning.
    • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
    • Ability to exercise effective decision-making skills.
    • Ability to provide supervision for field medics to include directives in treatment based on established medical protocols.
    • Ability to effectively use medical software.


    Equipment:
    • LifePak 15 and 35.
    • Other related medical equipment pertinent to job duties.
    • Applicable gas detectors.
    • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone, iPad.


    Notifications:
    • This position is security sensitive.
    • This position is expected to work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
    • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
    • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
    • As part of TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/HQ Department Head.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
    • This position has reasonably anticipated exposure to bloodborne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials.


    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Patient Assessment and Medical Assistance - 75%
    • Provides medical care for the sick and injured persons at the Brayton Fire Field and other designated locations as specified by the supervisor.
    • Assesses the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance.
    • Observes, records, and reports patient's condition following established protocol and procedures.
    • Performs record keeping and data collection neatly and accurately completes written and electrical Patient Care Reports (ePCR).
    • Serves as a patient advocate with special concerns that will need to be brought to the attention of the patient that may need additional after-care information concerning their health and welfare and additional medical concerns and conditions.
    • Completes daily equipment checks and maintenance and assures equipment readiness, including cleaning as needed or required, along with proficiency in equipment operation, and reports deficiencies when noticed or found to their supervisor immediately.
    • Provides additional supervision of field medics in the absence of the TEEX/ESTI Health and Safety Coordinator.
    • Reviews and provides corrective measures to ensure accuracy in the medical reporting of patient care as needed.


    Audits and Patient Record Validation - 20%
    • Checks ESO Reporting system daily while on duty to perform required tasks or assignments as needed or assigned. Including TEEX Email accounts.
    • Provides periodical reviews of field medics, daily duties and reports as needed.
    • Provides periodical reviews of the TEEX/ESTI Field Medical Protocols to ensure the most up to date treatments are established and utilized as needed or assigned.
    • QA/QI compliance with the ESO Medical reporting software and compliance of all TEEX/ESTI Field Medics and Senior Field Medics when treatments are rendered and the proper reporting of those treatments as needed or assigned.
    • Inspects and performs safety related issues regarding maintenance and construction on the fire field.
    • Performs periodic safety audits and inspections of work environments on the fire field as needed or as assigned.


    Other Duties - 5%
    • Drives vehicles safely and prudently according to TEEX Vehicle Operation Policies and Procedures and in conjunction with the ESTI Safety Manual Procedures for Vehicle Operations.
    • Assists in updating the TEEX/ESTI Health and Safety Manual as needed or assigned.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
