This position is eligible for a temporary emergency operations adjustment of $3 to $6 per hour, depending on the area of operation, when handling winter/emergency operations activities. MoDOT will bring candidates onto the team as entry-level, intermediate, or senior level, based on your skills and experience. This position may be filled at one of the three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. The entry salary is posted above, with the Intermediate starting salary of $47,762.64, and a Senior starting salary of $51,583.68.
Why you’ll do: - Performs routine and emergency repairs to bridges, including concrete bridge repairs and structural steel repairs, paints and seals bridge caps, and performs deck repair and replacement.
- Paints structural steel bridges, including hanging scaffolding, cleaning and preparing bridge surfaces for painting, and mixing and applying paint using conventional or airless paint sprayers and related equipment.
- Assists in preventative maintenance functions on bridges in the state highway system.
- Sets up traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and flags; flags traffic for work zones.
- Operates vehicles and equipment to transport materials and crew to job sites; cleans and performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
All you need for success: - High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
- Valid driver’s license
- A passing grade on the written portion of the commercial driver’s license (CDL) exam is required prior to hire date. Must pass the driving portion of the CDL exam with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions (Class B), and interstate status (either Excepted Interstate [EI] or Non[1]Excepted Interstate [NI]) within 60 days of hire.
- Employee will be required to pass a cardiopulmonary function test yearly, attend training on the use of respirators, and pass a respirator fit test every six months.
- Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination
Special Working Conditions: - Job requires significant physical stamina and endurance.
- Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
- Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
