    This position may be filled at one of the three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. The entry salary is posted above, with the Intermediate starting salary of $70,562.40, and a Senior starting salary of $76,207.20 for candidates with an ABET engineering degree. The non-engineering degree entry level salary is $52,511.52, the Intermediate starting salary is $56,712.48, and the Senior starting salary is $61,249.44.

    Job Location: Work location will be at an office co-located with the Design-Build contractor, at the Eastbound I-70 Weigh Station, 19805 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Foristell, Missouri. These positions have a potential for relocation assistance. The determination of such will be handled on a case-by-case basis depending on the current location of the selected candidate.

    The Missouri Department of Transportation is seeking Project Development Specialists - East Team to assist the Project Director and Deputy Project Director in the delivery of MoDOT's largest-ever $600 Million Warrenton to Wentzville Improve I-70 Design-Build project. Design-build is a partnership with the industry to deliver the project goals by managing and allocating risks appropriately.

    These openings are for three of our CAREER-LADDER positions which offer the opportunity for career advancement without having to participate in the competitive selection interview process. As you continue to learn, acquire new skills, and gain experience, you can be promoted to a higher-level position.

    What you’ll do:

    • Help administer MoDOT’s largest single contract by participating in the Design-Build process, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, attending task force meetings with the design-build team, negotiating change orders and ensuring contract compliance.
    • Serve as a technical expert on the project by auditing design plans and specifications, preparing required project documentation and verifying progress of contractors.
    • Complete audits of construction and materials based on Inspection and Testing Plan to verify the performance and accuracy of the contractor’s Quality Control.
    • Review contractor schedule, monitor progress, review and pay contractor invoices.
    • Other responsibilities as required or assigned.


    All you need for success:

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum. Eight (8) years minimum experience in construction inspection, roadway design, bridge design, and/or traffic engineering may be substituted for educational experience.
    • Certification to operate nuclear gauges may be required.
    • Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Capable of, or willingness to quickly learn how to, develop Design-Build documents including an RFP, review highway/bridge plans, score contractor proposals and inspect a design-build project.
    • Be flexible and willing to find the “win/win” scenarios in construction issues.
    • Vision focused on safety and innovative tactics.
    • Desired qualities of all potential team members include positive attitude, strong communication skills, knowledge and understanding of engineering processes and standards, ability to maintain confidentiality, and the ability to build strong partnerships.
