    The Town of Los Gatos is currently accepting applications for the position of

    TOWN MANAGER'S OFFICE INTERN

    Hourly Rate


    Intern I: $20.3280 - $25.9442

    Intern II: $25.9770 - $33.1541

    Salary placement will be based on work experience and qualifications.

    Are you interested in learning more about how local government operates? The Town of Los Gatos is seeking a part-time Intern eager to gain hands-on experience in local government by participating in initiatives that directly impact the Los Gatos community. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work with seasoned professionals in the Town Manager’s Office, to:

    • Gain hands-on job experience in public outreach and communications, administrative duties, and special projects.
    • Develop a deeper understanding of public sector policies and procedures.
    • Enhance your research, communications, and project management skills.
    • Build your network with professionals and leaders in the public sector.

    Schedule: This is a temporary/hourly position (10-30 hours per week). The normal workweek is Monday through Friday, with a flexible work schedule and hybrid schedule option available. Afternoon work hours are preferred.

    What you will do

    Under the supervision and guidance of an experienced mentor, you will:
    • Provide general administrative office support such as filing, data entry, organizing records.
    • Assist with graphic design work in Canva
    • Manage photos for use in social media and other projects
    • Provide contract and procurement support (e.g., drafting, formatting, procurement administrative support)
    • Assist with community engagement initiatives
    • Assist with drafting language for use in the Town’s newsletter, website, social media
    • Assist with Town website content editing
    • Assist with social media management and content support
    • Provide administrative support for Town Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission
    • Participate on the Town’s internal Health and Safety Team
    • Conduct research and data analysis to support ongoing projects
    • Assist with preparing reports and presentations
    • Provide support with special projects as assigned
    The ideal candidate
    • Is passionate about becoming a professional in a government setting
    • Has excellent writing and communication skills
    • Is highly organized and detail oriented
    • Has experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
    • Has design experience working in Canva
    • Has the aptitude to learn quickly and work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, multiple Departments, outside agencies, and the general public.
    • Has the ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.


    Duties and Responsibilities

    Specific tasks will vary depending on the area of assignment.
    • Assembles and analyzes data and makes interpretations for application to area of assignment.
    • Researches issues relevant to the assigned Department; participates in team analysis of problems.
    • Assists in developing new programs, policies or procedures.
    • Participates in the preparation of reports, preliminary studies and presentations.
    • Assists in analyzing information and preparing recommendations on systems, equipment, and business processes.
    • Assists with creating social media content for the Town social media platforms, updates social media schedules, monitors and replies to comments from subscribers.
    • Performs routine and general office tasks.
    • Creates and maintains databases, including perform data entry.
    • Performs related work as required


    Minimum Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

    Intern I: High school diploma or equivalent. Administrative support experience and/or college-level coursework or technical training or certification is desirable.

    Intern II: High school diploma or equivalent. And one year of administrative support experience. College-level coursework or technical training or certification is desirable.

    Working Conditions/ Physical Demands
    Employees must be able to maintain physical condition necessary for sitting, walking, and standing for extended periods of time; some stooping, crawling, crouching, and climbing; maintain concentration and the capability to make sound decisions; maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful completion of assigned duties.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    Knowledge of:
    • Standard office practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment, basic record-keeping, arithmetic, and computer applications related to the work.
    • Professional level writing techniques, including proper grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.

    Ability to:

    • Use computer and computer systems to gather, process and present information.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relations with others.
    • Carry out oral and written instructions.
    • Perform day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork.
    • Work independently and in a team setting.
    • Effectively communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.
    • Consistently demonstrate professionalism, ethical integrity, and exceptional customer service.
