    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Under the direction of the Lead Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for assisting with the operation, upkeep, and maintenance of Village Creek State Park. Duties include but are not limited to: groundskeeping, building and facility construction and maintenance, facility repairs, basic plumbing, equipment and vehicle upkeep and preventative maintenance, and good customer service to park visitors. Operates all types of equipment including mowers, tools, tractors and other gasoline operated equipment. Uses a computer to answer and correspond by email, fill out timesheets, and file needed park reports. Assists with special events, natural and cultural resource management, promoting voluntary compliance of state park rules and regulations, and responding to emergency situations. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from High School or GED.

    Experience :

    Three years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.

    Licensure :

    Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid class "C" Texas driver's license.

    NOTE : Retention of position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses.

    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

    Experience :

    Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience with a maximum substitution of two years.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Experience :

    Experience working with the public.

    Experience in equipment maintenance and repair

    Experience in facility maintenance and repair

    Experience operating gasoline powered equipment and vehicles

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of building and facility repair techniques such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical or mechanical;

    Knowledge of general custodial duties;

    Knowledge of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance;

    Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems;

    Knowledge of building materials;

    Knowledge of welding procedures and techniques;

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook;

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

    Skill in using various hand and power tools and mechanical equipment;

    Skill in the use and repair of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators, and other mechanical equipment;

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

    Skill in making independent, sound, and timely decisions;

    Skill in operating heavy equipment;

    Skill in selecting appropriate tools and equipment and in troubleshooting situations to determine appropriate actions to resolve problems;

    Ability to work independently with little or no supervision;

    Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment;

    Ability to work as a member of a team;

    Ability to direct and oversee the work of others;

    Ability to communicate effectively with the public;

    Ability to effectively communicate and help coordinate with multiple outside agencies and staff members over the phone and two-way radio during high stress situations;

    Ability to assist with enforcement of park rules and regulations;

    Ability to work from drawings, diagrams, or blueprints;

    Ability to estimate materials;

    Ability to apply proper methods, techniques, and procedures in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment;

    Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work in a high visitation public park with overnight camping;

    Required to work 40 hours per week, includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays;

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;

    Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

    Required to operate a State vehicle;

    Required to travel 10% with possible overnight stays;

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures;

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
