Job Summary Fire Prevention Inspector I/II/III
Performs specialized field and office work in fire prevention with responsibility for enforcement of fire safety codes, laws, and ordinances and includes inspection of commercial buildings to ensure compliance. Initiative and judgment must be exercised to recognize fire hazards and acquire code compliance. Field work exposes employee to varying weather conditions, chemicals, noxious fumes, insects, heights, and confined areas. Work is performed under general supervision, according to established guidelines, and is reviewed through daily conferences. This position is specific to acceptance testing and new construction projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
Fire Prevention Inspector I : High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate with six (6) months to one (1) year experience in fire inspection, fire prevention or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess and maintain State of Florida Fire Safety Inspector Certification from the Division of State Fire Marshal and a valid Florida Driver's License. Must pass a background check which includes a polygraph.
Fire Prevention Inspector II : High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate with two to three (2-3) years experience in fire inspection, fire prevention; or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience. Must possess and maintain State of Florida Fire Safety Inspector Certification from the Division of State Fire Marshal and a valid Florida Driver's License. Must pass a background check which includes a polygraph.
Fire Prevention Inspector III : High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate with four (4) or more years experience in fire inspection, fire prevention; or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience. Must possess and maintain State of Florida Fire Safety Inspector Certification from the Division of State Fire Marshal with a valid Florida Driver's License. Must pass a background check which includes a polygraph.

If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
- Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
- Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
- Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
- Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
