  • Job Description

    Full-time position available with the Office of the City Manager, Corrections Division located at 414 E. 12th St.
    Salary Range: $19.27-$29.39/hour
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Shift Work

    Responsibilities

    • Maintains the security of Municipal Court, enforcing rules and regulations, ensuring the safety, welfare and maintaining discipline of inmates.
    • Operates motor vehicles and specialized equipment as needed.
    • Work assignments are monitored by upper Supervision.
    • Officers use the appropriate restraints while transporting in custody to and from several locations which may include, Court, Hospitals, Jails, or treatment facilities.
    • Conducts all morning court transport through the KCPD tunnel.
    • Performs pat down searches for personal items, which will be placed in a property bag. All money will be counted and verified in front of custody, camera view and or another officer if available. The envelope will be sealed and signed by custody and officer.
    • Interacts with in custody professionally using appropriate communication skills and good decision-making.
    • Prepares various reports such as incident reports, use of force, vehicle log use.
    • Monitors in custody for signs of unusual behavior, improper conduct, or signs of conflict.
    • Assists in courtrooms to monitor, place into custody and transport prisoners within the Municipal Court building as needed.
    • Must be able to apply only necessary force to gain control of prisoner.
    • Must possess basic computer skills and ability to operate communication devices such as two-way radios.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES high school graduation. Must possess a valid state issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. May be required to possess a valid MO Class A, B or C CDL prior to the end of the probationary period as determined by the department. Must be eligible to obtain a special police commission as issued by the KCMO Police Department. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
