Why you'll love this positionThe community relations facilitator assists the superintendent in providing an effective community involvement and community relations program. This is a 12-month professional position with primary responsibility for the development of positive and productive relationships with parents and families, alumni, the local community, educators, service organizations, other agencies serving people with visual impairments and the general public.
What you'll do - Prepare and disseminate targeted articles to service clubs, related agency publications and local newsletters.
- Serve as media liaison and school spokesperson with the school superintendent.
- Prepare and disseminate an internal monthly newsletter to update staff on school activities and related programs and issues.
- Prepare and disseminate an external quarterly newsletter to inform staff, parents, educators, contributors and other partners of the activities, programs and accomplishments of staff and students.
- Build and maintain MSB's website with reports/events scheduled and submitted by superintendent and/or program directors.
- Arrange speaking engagements for directors, superintendent, students and/or teachers at schools, clubs, other organizations, etc.
- Arrange and conduct school tours.
- Serve as liaison with MSB Alumni Association and MSB Boosters.
- Serve as liaison with the Regional Coalition for Experiential Education (RCEE); assist with planning and organization of events.
- Organize and coordinate special events, including Lions Appreciation Day, Alumni Weekend, Commencement MSB Field Day and Christmas Extravaganza.
- Organize fund-raising activities/events, such as the Lions Day silent auction and The Giving Tree.
- Acknowledge and track donations.
- Coordinate volunteer program.
- Prepare and disseminate press releases to invite media attention to student, staff and school accomplishments.
- Serve as liaison with companies/employers for transition training opportunities and for our student employment program. Works with the K-12 education staff to build relationships with St. Louis area businesses that may provide training opportunities or employ our students through the L.I.F.E. program.
- Promote and coordinate activities and events internally to promote a positive work environment.
- Promote and coordinate activities and events externally to promote positive relationship with MSB stakeholders.
- This position requires some flexibility in work hours and involves some weekend activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
All you need for success - Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications or a related field.
- Desktop publishing experience/website construction/graphic arts experience.
- Excellent written language and computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience in not-for-profit community relations, media relations and/or event planning
