Directs or assists in the overall planning, development, and administration of the assigned correctional programs or services; assists in directing the development and implementation of departmental planning issues.
Directs or assists in the general management of policy development, program planning and coordination, and the evaluation of policy and/or organizational changes and new programs.
Reviews and/or revises programs to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, policies, plans, and procedures.
Participates in the development, implementation, and interpretation of new or revised program, departmental, or legislative initiatives; selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff.
Plans, directs, evaluates, and coordinates assigned probation and parole services, including coordination of personnel issues and supervision of assigned staff.
Directs or assists in the direction and supervision of activities in a correctional facility, including programs designed for the social adjustment and rehabilitation of offenders.
Directs or assists in the direction, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of the institutional offender placement and transfer process.
Participates in the development of budget requests; monitors expenditures according to budget allocations/appropriations; and recommends and/or initiates cost-saving measures.
Conducts investigations and institutes special studies; prepares and/or reviews reports and related information to evaluate existing organizations, policies, procedures, and practices.
Analyzes and interprets federal and state legislation for its effect on the administration of state correctional programs.
Participates in conferences, training sessions, and meetings.
Represents and/or serves as liaison for the assigned area of responsibility; cooperates with and makes presentations to federal, state, local, and community organizations, and other groups pertaining to the assigned programs.
Negotiates or administers contracts, grants, and cooperative agreements with federal, state, local, and community organizations.
Exercises considerable initiative and judgment in planning and carrying out assignments under general administrative direction; work is reviewed through conferences, reports, and evaluation of operational results; performs other related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Five or more years of correctional experience within the Missouri Department of Corrections, or at a city, county, state, or federal correctional facility, of which at least one year must have been at the level of Correctional Captain, Functional Unit Manager, or comparable section head.

Some positions are eligible for a shift differential of $173.34 semi-monthly, which is provided to employees with shifts that begin on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am, and who work at a 24/7 worksite (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center), or whose work requires regular visits to these locations. If selected for interview, eligibility may be discussed at that time with the hiring manager.
The Department of Corrections is the only State agency that currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of service up to 20 years.
