Job Description:OverviewTo participate in all work activities associated with maintaining the health, function and value of the City's Urban Forest Infrastructure. Inspect, monitor, guide and evaluate the work of landscape and tree contractors working within City's Rights-of-way and properties.
Essential Functions- Collects and maintains tree information in the Global Positioning System and downloads it to the computer.
- Monitors contractors and/or landscape staff during removal of dead and hazard trees and trimming of trees within City's Rights-of-way and properties.
- Works with Neighborhoods Department to oversee the street tree installation for proper grades and standards regarding installation.
- Monitors yearly maintenance of street trees for growth and stability.
- Performs planting, transplanting, cultivating, trimming, fertilizing, pruning and tree removal.
- Maintains an electronic database of records concerning tree management activities.
- Performs strenuous work in a variety of weather conditions including high heat conditions.

Minimum Qualifications- High School or GED
- Five years experience in landscape maintenance activities; or the equivalent in education, training, and experience, which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Possess and maintain a Certified Arborist Certification.
- The ability to possess and maintain a valid Class "B" or higher State of Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of employment.

- Working knowledge of the methods and equipment used in the maintenance and care of trees.
- Working knowledge of hazards involved and applicable safety precautions of the work.
- Ability to understand and carry out formal oral and written instructions and to make reports.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Knowledge of trees and palms species commonly used in public and commercial landscaping.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of tools and materials used in arboriculture.
- Knowledge of potential safety hazards and applicable safety precautions.
- Knowledge of basic OSHA requirements applicable to arboriculture operations and maintenance.
- Knowledge of desktop computer systems, equipment and software, including spreadsheet, database, word processing and similar software programs and GPS systems.
- Ability to detect plant and tree diseases and determine appropriate corrective measures.
- Ability to work overtime and/or be on call.
- Ability to prepare complete, accurate and coherent reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Ability to monitor contractors and landscape staff in routine work, including experience in the field of tree maintenance
ResponsibilityUnder the direction of and responsible to the Department Head or designated representative. Assigns work to landscape staff, providing technical advice and guidance on tree maintenance or general assistance when needed.
Physical RequirementsThis position requires the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Work requires considerable physical activity including walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, pulling, grasping, balancing, climbing, kneeling, standing and crouching. Incumbent is subject to inside and outside activities with a variety of weather changes or atmospheric conditions. Incumbent may be exposed to activities such as noise and jobs with potential hazards that may require special protection and/or special safety precautions. Visual acuity is required to inspect work completed by crews for accuracy and quality. Incumbent is required to hear sufficiently to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Manual dexterity is required to operate equipment in performance of duties.
