    Full-time position available with the Public WOrks Department, District 1 Street Maintenance Division located at 2400 NE Russell Road
    Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Operates heavy, complex, and specialized automotive equipment in connection with the construction, maintenance, and repair of street systems.
    • Operates a pavement striper.
    • Operates a bulldozer in the maintenance and upkeep of roads.
    • Services equipment with fuel, oil, water, and grease.
    • Operates a heavy construction-type motor patrol grader in building of roads and plowing snow and maintaining ditches.
    • Reads grade stakes, grades, and finish grades streets before oiling.
    • Shapes road shoulders and crowns.
    • Operates a large trenching machine or backhoe digging ditches or holes for drainage pipes, culvert, or bridge maintenance.
    • Operates high loader with a bucket capacity of 2-1/2 cubic yards or more in loading materials and equipment.
    • Leads drivers who are assigned to haul for the loader.
    • Makes routine field adjustments and repairs to equipment.
    • Assists mechanics in the maintenance and major repair of equipment.
    • Conducts safety inspection of equipment.
    • Maintains and completes accurate records and logs.
    • Operates complex specialized mowing equipment in conjunction with roadside maintenance.
    • Participates in snow plowing and snow removal operations.
    • Performs related duties as required.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES 2 years of increasingly responsible experience in the operation of heavy and complex construction and maintenance equipment. Must possess a valid state -issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. May be required to possess a valid MO Class A, B, or C CDL prior to the end of the employee's probationary period as determined by the department. If moving from a non-safety-sensitive position, must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
