Job Description:OverviewTo perform janitorial and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance of City-owned and operated buildings and facilities.
Essential Functions- Makes semi-skilled repairs on buildings and notifies supervisor concerning repair work that may include minor repairs of masonry, plumbing, air conditioning, electrical work and carpentry.
- Maintains cleanliness of buildings and facilities.
- Mops hallways and floors; cleans and dusts offices.
- Arranges chairs and furniture in an orderly fashion.
- Washes windows, walls, woodwork and window blinds.
- Vacuums, sweeps, mops and waxes floors and shampoos carpets.
- Gathers and disposes of refuse in appropriate receptacles.
- Polishes furniture and brass.
- Inspects facilities and installs new light bulbs when needed.
- Cleans and supplies restrooms daily.
- Checks for proper heating and cooling of buildings.
- Opens and locks buildings for meetings and/or other events.
- Maintains inventory of required cleaning supplies.
- Moves furniture and equipment when requested for meeting preparations.
- Raises and lowers flag.
- Performs minor building maintenance tasks.
- Performs limited outside work such as picking up paper and debris on outside grounds/lawns.
- Assures security of assigned facility while working and secures when work is complete.
- Takes precautions to ensure a safe working environment when cleaning, moping or completing repairs by utilizing personal protective equipment and caution signage.

Incumbent may be required to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this job description.
Minimum Qualifications- High School or GED,
- One (1) year of janitorial experience, preferably with some experience in semi-skilled repair work,
- Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License may be required depending on assignment.
Job Based Competencies- Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
- Working knowledge of maintenance and custodial requirements and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees and the general public and may plan and supervise the work of other custodial staff.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to perform custodial duties and direct others in it.
- Ability to work shifts or afternoon/evening/night hours as required.
ResponsibilityUnder the direction of and responsible to the Department Head or designated representative. May direct the activities of other custodial workers as assigned.
Physical RequirementsThis is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Work requires considerable physical activity including walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, pulling, grasping, balancing, climbing, kneeling, standing and crouching. Incumbent is subject to inside and outside activity with no effective protection from weather changes. Safety precautions will be taken when handling cleaning chemicals and other hazardous materials. Visual acuity is required to operate equipment and perform routine maintenance tasks. Incumbent is required to hear sufficiently to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Manual dexterity is required to operate equipment in performance of duties.
