The Larimer County Economic and Workforce Development (LCEWD) CareerRise team is hiring a temporary High School Equivalency (HSE/GED) Tutor.     The HSE/GED Tutor will provide support to young adults in the core subjects of Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies, in preparation for their HSE/GED exams. Tutors will work in partnership with the lead youth case manager to further ensure student success.

    This is a part time position and hours will vary between 4 to 16 hours per week depending on the number of students and their needs. This position has considerable flexibility to create a custom schedule that works around other commitments and students' schedules. The HSE/GED tutor will arrange to meet with students at various community/public spaces.

    Responsibilities

    Specifically, this position:
    • Provides one on one, individualized instruction to out-of-school youth ages 16-24 who are pursuing an HSE diploma.
    • Employs multiple methods of instruction to best meet the needs of each individual student including creating lesson plans, assigning homework, and facilitating practice tests as needed.
    • Establishes and maintains appropriate student-tutor relationships with young adults.
    • Maintains open and effective communication with LCEWD staff regarding student progress, concerns, learning difficulties, and test readiness.
    • Accurately documents work hours and activities and submits according to required payroll schedule.

    We are looking for a candidate that will:
    • Have knowledge of high school level Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
    • Demonstrate digital literacy (i.e. Google platforms, online calendars, Zoom, other digital tools).
    • Show the ability to establish rapport, connect, and teach one-on-one to various learning styles
    • Have excellent verbal, written, listening and technical communication skills.
    • Maintain organization of student schedules, materials, progress, and communications
    • Take initiative and feel comfortable working independently.



    Qualifications

    All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.
    • Six (6) months of experience in teaching or tutoring, required.
    • Must be at least 21 years of age, required.
