Essential Functions:
The responsibilities of the Program Assistant are:
- Oversees general accounting functions
- Assists in preparing reports and expenditure tracking
- Provides financial operational assistance and support
- Ensures fiscal compliance for the County and the State
- Prepares, process invoices for payment and reimbursements
- Prepares documents in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Prepares requisitions, receives purchases, and completes purchase orders
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and fiscal reporting requirements
- Completes bank deposits and reconciliations
- Collaborate with administrative support team members focus on enhancing team development, streamlining processes and providing essential support for program operations
About Our TeamCooperative Extension - Wake County Center is a collaborative partnership among county, state, and federal governments committed to ensuring all citizens have access to the wealth of knowledge generated by local governance and academic institutions. Our staff successfully integrates government resources, grant funding, donations, etc. to create programs that address community needs. We are seeking a Program Assistant who can navigate the accounting requirements of our diverse stakeholders. This role is crucial for maintaining compliance while also providing valuable insights to help us plan for future needs and opportunities.
The Basics (Required Education and Experience) - Associate's degree
- One year of job-related experience
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) - Demonstrated 2 years experience working at a department or central level
- Demonstrated experience providing support with county, state, and/or grant-funded programs
- Demonstrated familiarity with generally accepted accounting work principles
- Demonstrated 2 years of experience reconciling accounts, including bank accounts
- Demonstrated advanced proficiency in preparing documents and tracking data in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Knowledge and experience in proficiently using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint application
- Demonstrated experience in managing projects, presentations, facilitating meetings and workshops or work sessions
- Demonstrated completion of an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field
- Demonstrated 2+ years experience with data analysis, tracking and reporting
How Will We Know You're 'The One'? - Knowledge and experience providing accounting support to diverse programs
- Knowledge and experience reconciling accounts, including pre- and post-audit processes to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Ability to prepare documents in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Ability to develop and maintain reporting tools for tracking payments, collections, accounts payable and receivable, purchases, and related financial activities
- Ability to reconcile payments and deposits from varied sources into multiple accounts, along with the capacity to research unprecedent opportunities
- Ability to compile information on diverse financial transactions recorded in county, state and grant systems
- Ability to thrive in a diverse environment and collaborate effectively with individuals from various disciplines, each with a different level of knowledge and experience in fiscal systems
- Ability to communicate verbally and in written formats
