Special Internal Recruitment *** This is an internal promotional opportunity for current City of Reno Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMTs) who have been identified as having met the minimum qualifications to be promoted.Qualified promotional candidates will be added to the established eligible list with promotional opportunities available at the department’s discretion or as vacancies occur.
Examples of Essential Functions- Participate in the delivery of emergency and non-emergency medical and health care.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency medical calls for service and provides life support functions as indicated.
- Drive and operate ambulances and other department vehicles safely, in accordance with established department and emergency driving guidelines.
- Provide an exemplary, safe, professional demeanor at all times.
- Become familiar with and maintain medical information in a confidential manner subject to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as per policy.
- Maintain currency of all required certifications and licenses.
- Provide feedback to management for improvement of working conditions, patient care, and system performance.
- Document and complete all reports, such as: pre-hospital care reports, incident reports, travel information and training and continuing education records as per policy.
- Lift, carry, and/or push patients as needed to move or transfer them to wheelchairs, stretchers, ambulances, or other assistive devices.
- Participate in the transportation of patients to appropriate treatment facilities as needed; assist the receiving facility by obtaining, recording, and communicating patients’ vital statistics and circumstances of the emergency.
- Participate in vehicle, station, and equipment maintenance and cleanup activities; check assigned vehicle(s) and equipment to ensure response readiness; maintain an inventory of supplies, equipment, and routine vehicle parts.
- Assist staff/employees/others in delivering medical care.
- Must be able to work overtime as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsAge & Education:- At least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Work Experience:- A minimum of one-year full-time experience working as a non-probationary Paramedic with a transporting ALS (advanced life support) system responding to a minimum of 1000 calls per year.
Licenses and Certificates:- Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
- Possession of current, valid Nevada Paramedic certification or National Registry Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic certification.
- Must possess a current AHA BLS Provider certification.
- Must possess a current AHA ACLS Provider certification.
- Must possess a current AHA PALS Provider certification.
- Must possess a current ITLS or equivalent certification, or have the ability to obtain one upon hire.
- Ability to obtain a Nevada Ambulance Attendant license.
*All licenses, certifications, and/or qualifications are required to be kept current and maintained for continued employment.

Examination Process:
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications and pass the examination for this position to be eligible for hire. The examination will consist of a Training and Experience evaluation (T&E) weighted at 100%.
Training and Experience Evaluation (T&E) Details:The T&E examination consists of a Supplemental Questionnaire. The questions may be viewed online under the tab marked
"QUESTIONS" on the job announcement page. The T&E must be submitted online at the time of application.

- Failure to complete all of the questions or incomplete responses will result in a lower score; therefore, it is advantageous for you to provide a full and complete response to each supplemental question.

Employee/Veteran Preference in the Event of Tie Scores: On promotional examinations (Rule VIII, Section 9), in the event of tie scores resulting from final rating, including seniority points, a classified employee will be awarded veteran's preference and provided a rank preference if one (1) of the eligibles has submitted proof of honorable discharge from the military service. This preference will only be administered in the event of tie scores. Documentation must be submitted at the time of application.
Seniority Points:Classified employees of the City of Reno shall receive seniority credit computed by adding to a passing score as follows:
The final ranking will include the applicable seniority points added to the overall grade of the examination process. For each full year of continuous service completed, 0.2 points will be added up to a maximum of ten (10) years... 2 points will be the maximum.
Rule VIII - Promotion, Section 9. Seniority Credit.
Appointment and Certification: Appointments to positions in the City's Civil Service system are made on the basis of examination. Scores resulting from a competitive examination are used in determining a person's rank on an eligible register. The department may hire any of the persons referred. The names of those persons not hired may be considered when the next vacancy occurs, for as long as that register is viable.
