    ABOUT LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES
    The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest municipal health system in the nation. DHS operates as an integrated health system, operating 25 health centers and four acute care hospitals, in addition to providing health care to youth in the juvenile justice system and inmates in the LA County jails. Across the network of DHS' directly operated clinical sites and through partnerships with community-based clinics, DHS annually provides direct care for over 600,000, unique patients, employs over 23,000 staff, and has an annual operating budget of over $6.9 billion.

    Through academic affiliations with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Southern California (USC), and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Sciences (CDU), DHS hospitals are training sites for physicians completing their Graduate Medical Education in nearly every medical specialty and subspecialty. In addition, to its direct clinical services, DHS also runs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency and the County's 911 emergency response system, as well as Housing for Health and the Office of Diversion and Re-entry, each with a critical role in connecting vulnerable populations, including those released from correctional and institutional settings. .

    DEFINITION:
    Performs semi-skilled carpentry work assisting a journey or higher-level carpenter engaged in new construction, installations, alterations, and repairs.

    Essential Job Functions

    Assists with millwork.

    Takes and records measurements.

    Assists in all phases of carpentry work such as the replacement, repair, and maintenance of doors, windows, floors, ceilings, stairways, and walls.

    Assists in assembling, installing, and repairing office and institutional furnishings and equipment.

    Maintains tools and equipment.

    Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites.
    Cleans work areas.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    Option I: One (1) year of experience assisting in carpentry work.

    -OR-

    Option II:
    Completion of 600 hours of instruction in woodworking courses* in a high school, college, the armed forces of the United States, or other recognized school**.

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out job-related essential functions.
    PHYSICAL CLASS III - MODERATE:
    This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
    *In order to receive credit for courses completed, you must include a legible photocopy of the official transcripts or certificate of completion to verify course work which shows the area of specialization with your application at the time of filing.

    **Recognized school is defined as an approved agency including but not limited to agencies such as Southwest Carpenters and United Brotherhood of Carpenters.

    IMPORTANT NOTICE:
    Prime Variance Reports (PVRs), also known as Master Time Records, are not accepted, or required as part of the application process; this includes the selection interview and the background-check.

    Additional Information

    EXAMINATION CONTENT:
    This examination will consist of a structured oral interview which designed to assess Job Preparation, Knowledge and Skills, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Oral Communication skills weighted 100%

    Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination in order to be added to the eligible register.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:


    Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.

    The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.

    NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.
    SPECIAL INFORMATION :

    Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
