    Minimum Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.

    Preferred Qualification:
    One year of employment experience in general building construction or maintenance, 6 months of which in heavy equipment operation OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical/trades school course. Experience in the maintenance of a park or similar facility is desirable.

    Duties Description

    Under the supervision of the Regional Maintenance Supervisor, the selected candidate will primarily support the region’s Heavy Equipment Operator by performing semi-skilled and unskilled labor. Duties include but are not limited to:
    * Assist journey-level staff with heavy equipment across the Saratoga/Capital Region.
    * Assist with operating a variety of self-propelled and other equipment in maintaining and repairing the park’s general infrastructure, including roads, landscaping and grading, logging operations, dump truck and trailer operations, drainage work, sign installation, and snow and ice control.
    * Perform a variety of maintenance tasks to support the facility maintenance programs.
    * Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and assist mechanics in more extensive equipment maintenance and repair.
    * Once trained, the candidate will be responsible for safely operating equipment, using hand tools, operating a vehicle, loading and unloading equipment and supplies, site and tool clean up, and other job-related tasks, as assigned by the Heavy Equipment Operator.
    * May be assigned to work independently on a project or under other tradespersons, depending on the region's needs.
    * Other related duties as assigned.

    Additional Comments

    OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
    * Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
    * Ability to work outdoors year-round
    * Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor including medium-heavy lifting an
    * Must be able to effectively communicate with other staff and park patrons in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
    * Must be capable of safely driving up to two hours one-way using a work vehicle.
