    IT Standards Technologist II

    (Information Technologist II)

    This position is scheduled to receive salary range increases on the following dates:

    Effective June 27, 2025 - 4.00% increase

    Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

    This recruitment will establish an open eligible list that will be used to fill current and future Information Technologist II positions. The eligible list established may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

    THE OPPORTUNITY
    Orange County Information Technology (OCIT) Shared Services has an exciting opportunity for a technically skilled IT Standards Technologist.

    The IT Standards Technologist II is responsible for developing, maintaining, and ensuring compliance with IT standards and policies across the County of Orange. This role also involves administering the lifecycle of physical IT equipment, coordinating equipment refreshes, and supporting various IT processes and projects. The incumbent ill work closely with multiple departments to communicate standards, provide training, and manage incident responses, all while staying updated with industry trends and emerging technologies.
    This position will be responsible for:
    • Create, update, and maintain IT standards, policies, and procedures to ensure alignment with industry best practices and organizational goals.
    • Ensure IT standards are up-to-date with emerging technologies and regulatory requirements.
    • Administer the life cycle of physical equipment, including integrated systems, deployments, upgrades, patches, hardware, and software standards.
    • Document IT standards, policies, procedures, and compliance activities clearly and comprehensively.
    • Create high-level device reports for Business Relationship Managers (BRMs) and develop advanced ad-hoc and canned reports (SCCM, SQL, and PowerShell).
    • Collaborate with various departments to communicate IT standards and ensure understanding and adherence.
    • Provide guidance and support to teams on implementing IT standards and best practices.
    • Attend high-level meetings with Business Relationship Managers, Project Managers, and Directors of various Agencies.
    • Identify opportunities for improving IT standards and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Participate in the continuous improvement of IT practices and frameworks.
    • Test various devices to ensure compatibility with the organization’s environment.
    • Work with IT towers to determine recommended devices.
    • Document and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to IT equipment and processes.
    • Work with Security for new device assessments and integration into the existing environment.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES
    In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology / Computer Science, or have at least 1 year of relevant work experience with IT Standards.

    The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience and/or knowledge in the following:

    Technical Knowledge | Technical Experience
    • Proven experience in IT standards development, compliance monitoring, and equipment management.
    • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, hardware, software, and emerging technologies.
    • Experience with SCCM, SQL, PowerShell, and other relevant tools and technologies.
    • Demonstrating experience in Technical Writing such as preparing and maintaining documentation of department processes, procedures, and reports
    • Experience in drawing documentation using Visio
    • Experienced working with high performance platforms and managing, designing, and maintaining advanced technologies
    • Experience with IT budgeting evaluating an organization's IT needs, prioritizing them, and allocating resources to meet those needs.

    • Identifying opportunities for continued system improvements
    Relationship Building | Interpersonal Skills
    • Working with other public and private sector agencies in efforts to provide information technology-specific customer service to the community and key stakeholders
    • Coordinating with vendors to acquire and implement technologies and resolve complex technical issues
    Communication Skills
    • Clearly conveying information technology concepts and terminology with both technical and non-technical staff at all levels within and outside the agency
    • Producing clear and concise written documents, reports, correspondence, and briefs
    • Soliciting feedback and adjusting customer requests to fit into business improvement
    • Preparing and maintaining documentation of department processes and procedures
    • Generating consensus and collaborative relationships to bring about efficient and effective outcomes
    • Providing detailed documentation related to technological solutions and systems supported
    Customer Service
    • Working with other public and private agencies, vendors in efforts to provide information technology-specific customer service to the community, public, and key stakeholders
    • Generating consensus and collaborative relationships to bring about efficient and effective outcomes
    • Establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and managers
    • Soliciting feedback and adjust customer requests to fit into business improvements

    RECRUITMENT PROCESS

    Structured Oral Interview (Weighted 100%)
    Applicants will be interviewed and rated by an oral interview panel of job knowledge experts. Each applicant's rating will be based on responses to a series of structured questions designed to elicit the applicant's qualifications for the job. Only the most successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list.

    Eligible List
    Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.

    Based on the County's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.
