    The Position

    Dental Assistants assist dentists in the general or specialized treatment of patients in routine, emergency, and clinical research procedures in areas of diagnostic, preventive, restorative, periodontal, endodontic, pedodontic, orthodontic, oral surgery, and prosthodontic dental care.

This is the journey level in the series.

    This position is located at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs, NV. The Dental Assistant 2 role includes preparing and arranging dental instruments, materials, and equipment for procedures, using four-handed dental assisting techniques, and ensuring the cleanliness and sterilization of instruments according to CDC standards. They are responsible for patient care, which involves receiving and seating patients, updating their medical history, explaining treatment plans, and securing informed consent for special procedures. Additionally, Dental Assistants expose and process radiographs, demonstrate knowledge of bloodborne pathogen standards, and handle hazardous materials according to OSHA guidelines. The role also includes expanded duties such as fabricating temporary crowns, performing coronal polishing, removing sutures, and applying fluoride treatments and sealants as directed by staff dentist. Dental Assistant 2's provides basic oral hygiene instructions, maintain and inventory dental supplies, and ensure accurate tool control in accordance with institutional security practices. The Dental Assistant is expected to provide quality customer service, maintain professional communication, and demonstrate proficiency with computer skills necessary for the operation of the dental clinic. Safety, professionalism, and adherence to HIPAA standards are also a critical component of the role.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience in a dental practice using four-handed techniques in a wide range of procedures, collecting and recording patient's medical information, exposing, processing, mounting and labeling radiographs, and applying dental sterile techniques and infectious control and exposure procedures; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education, successful completion of a recognized one-year dental assistant training program, and one year of experience working with the public collecting and recording information and/or explaining and clarifying basic information; OR one year of experience as a Dental Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
