    Definition

    Currently there is one full-time vacancy in the Finance Department assigned to the Revenue Division. This position is responsible for customer service and administrative hearing operations. This position will also provide support to utility billing, cashiering, parking citations, and payment processing.

    Schedule:
    This position is able to work a 5/40 or 9/80 schedule.

    Selection Components:

    1. Application Evaluation - This position will remain open on a continuous basis with the first review of applications on November 5, 2024, or until 150 applications are received, whichever occurs first. Qualified applicants will be invited to an online exam.

    2. Online Exam - Tentatively scheduled for the week of November 8, 2024. Top-scoring applicants will be invited to a virtual interview.

    3. Virtual Interview- Tentatively scheduled for the week of December 3, 2024. Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future Fiscal Specialist vacancies as they occur.


    Career Path:

    The Fiscal Specialist is the advanced technical and supervisory level class in the fiscal support series.

    Retirement:
    The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement Systems (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 11.5% of pay towards the retirement benefit.

    Experience & Education and License/Certificate

    A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible fiscal support experience in property control, cashiering, payroll, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable or a related field. Supervision of personnel desirable.

    Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school. Additional college level coursework in bookkeeping, accounting, finance or related field desirable.

    License/Certificate : Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

    The City of Newport Beach is located in the coastal center of Orange County, with Los Angeles County to the north and San Diego County to the south. The Council consists of the Mayor and six other members and is responsible for policy-making, passing local ordinances, adopting the budget, appointing committees and hiring the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk. The City Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the City Council, for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the City, and for appointing heads of departments.
