    San Diego State University School of Social Work seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member (Assistant Professor rank) with expertise in the field of Community Organizing, Community Development and Policy Advocacy, with a focus and expertise in health equity and economic justice.

    The School of Social Work offers both BSW and MSW degree programs, and a BA in Gerontology. The graduate program provides advanced concentrations in Direct Practice/Clinical and in Administration and Community Development. The School is home to the Consensus Organizing Center. The School, in conjunction with the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) also offers a Joint Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Research on Substance Use (IRSU). In addition, the School has made a major commitment in the area of alcohol and other drug research. The School is extensively involved in local, state, and national human service issues through individual faculty research and community intervention programs.     The minimum salary for this position is based on the current CSU salary schedule for Assistant Professors and may be revised based on contract collective bargaining. The anticipated salary range is from $92,000 to $96,000. Salary placement will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience, and salaries higher than the published maximums may be offered in limited circumstances.     Qualifications

    We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups. Candidates must satisfy two or more of the eight Building on Inclusive Excellence (BIE) criteria. Candidates that meet BIE criteria: (a) are committed to engaging in service with underrepresented populations within the discipline, (b) have demonstrated knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students and faculty within the discipline, (c) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students, (d) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to integrating understanding of underrepresented populations and communities into research, (e) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to extending knowledge of opportunities and challenges in achieving artistic/scholarly success to members of an underrepresented group, (f) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to research that engages underrepresented communities, (g) have expertise or demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration, and/or (h) have research interests that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education.     Hiring Criteria -- Required (clearly document in cover letter)

    1. Expertise is sought in the Community Organizing, Community Development, and Policy Advocacy, with a focus and interest in health equity and economic justice (e.g., but not limited to, grassroots community-based organizations addressing health and economic disparities experienced by communities in Border Regions and other regions disproportionately impacted by social, economic and health inequities).

    2. A Master of Social Work (MSW) degree is required and as is a doctorate in Social Work, Public Administration, Public Health or relevant Social Science discipline.

    3. Two years post-MSW Community Organizing, Community Development and/or Policy Advocacy experience, clearly documented in the cover letter

    4. The candidates must demonstrate the ability to establish clear research trajectories and present a potential for seeking extramural research funds in the area of macro practice (see above).

    5. Demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals or communities from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups.

    Hiring Criteria -- Strongly Desired

    1. Previous graduate and/or undergraduate teaching experience.

    2. Research and practice experience related community organizing/ community development and/or policy advocacy

    3. Expertise working with diverse communities to promote social justice and human rights.
