This position is located within the Bureau of Genetics and Healthy Childhood. The Bureau strives to assist Missouri families to reach their full potential through programs that focus on prevention, education and awareness.
- Conduct education, training, and robust community outreach to expand newborn screening awareness and compliance.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for the newborn screening follow-up program.
- Utilize the nursing process and evidence-based decision making to assure effective, valid, and reliable policies and procedures for newborn screening follow-up.
- Facilitate and engage in collaborative communication with PCPs, geneticists and other specialists in regard to newborn screening best practice in Missouri.
- Participate in state and national coalitions involved in newborn screening issues.
- Provide consultative and technical assistance to hospitals, physicians, nurses, midwives, and other health care professionals to assure appropriate and timely newborn screening follow-up.
Minimum Qualifications: - Active Missouri registered nurse license in good standing. Minimum 2 years experience as a registered nurse.
- Experience in administrative nursing or nursing education highly desired. This is not a patient care position.
- Public speaking skills, the ability to engage community partners, and strengthen stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to exercise significant independence and initiative in performing job duties with consistent use of excellent critical thinking skills.
- Willingness to pursue continuous education to stay aware of the ever-changing issues in newborn screening.
- Demonstrate the ability to consistently communicate in a highly professional manner both written and verbally.
- Awareness of quality assurance activities for the purpose of evaluating and improving processes.
- Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail.
- Experience developing reports, correspondence, and presentations.
- Current proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
