    Full-time Limited-term Merit position available with the Office of the City Manager, Office of Environmental Qualify Division located at 414 E. 12th St. Limited-term lasts four years.
    Salary Range: $24.77-$37.16/hour
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, flexible overlapping office hours from 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m,*Hybrid telework schedule available after 6 month probationary period.

    Responsibilities

    • Assists the Sustainability Manager in implementation of the Food related actions and strategies listed in the Kansas City's Climate Protection and Resiliency Plan (CPRP) to prioritize climate equity and justice, community resilience, community empowerment, financing and innovation, to achieve greenhouse gas reduction goals community-wide and in city government operations and associated co-benefits through mitigation, adaptation, and sequestration.
    • Interfaces with Planning, Health, Neighborhoods, Public Works, KC Water, KC Parks, General Services, Finance and other relevant city staff to insure climate action in relation to food systems is integrated across departments. •
    • Works with relevant staff and non-governmental organizations to develop the City's food systems solutions as integral to climate protection and resiliency, including consideration of municipal owned lands and land bank for use in urban farming, and through policy and rule navigation for urban agriculture.
    • Acts as a City liaison to various food systems networks, developing and reporting on key performance indicators to show progress in increasing production of local food.
    • Improves healthy and sustainable food access, including food waste reduction and diversion to nature-based solutions.
    • Actively pursues grant opportunities to improve utilization of food systems strategies in city operations and citywide.
    • Keeps current on Federal, state and local legislation and resources affecting food production and access.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in an environmentally related field, such as environmental science and related physical and life sciences, environmental engineering and related engineering specializations, environmental law and related legal specializations or environmental studies and related management, environmental planning and related urban planning specializations, environmental education, environmental policy, sustainability, and public administration specializations; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must possess of a valid state-issued drivers license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. May be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
