    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Under the direction of Division Director(s), this position performs complex (journey-level) professional assistance work for an executive. This position is responsible for and oversees various administrative operations to support Information Technology, Support Resources and Financial Resource Divisions, Directors, and staff. Maintains professional and effective working relationships with agency staff and individuals served by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD). Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, and Division rules, regulations, and procedures.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or closely related field.

    Experience:

    Two years of progressively responsible experience with complex administrative and support programs involving executive-level administrative support or general office management in an automated environment.

    Licensure:

    If driving is required, applicant must possess a valid State driver's license.



    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS

    Education:

    One additional year of experience, beyond the required, of progressively responsible experience with complex administrative and support programs involving executive-level administrative support or general office management in an automated environment may substitute for 30 hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.



    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience:

    Experience in Texas State Government.

    Experience with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department business practices.



    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge of executive level scheduling.

    Knowledge of administrative and technical practices and procedures.

    Knowledge of support practices and procedures to support a Commission or Board.

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams and Outlook.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in office management principles, practices, and administrative procedures.

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

    Skill in promoting, establishing, and maintaining effective working relationships.

    Skill in meeting strict deadlines.

    Skill in providing direct services or information requested by Division Directors and/or Executive Management.

    Skill in exercising initiative and independent judgment in coordinating logistical arrangements.

    Skill in interpreting and implementing Division policies and procedures.

    Skill in problem solving/troubleshooting and researching information.

    Skill in working independently and using sound judgment and initiative in accomplishing tasks with limited supervision.

    Skill in using office equipment, personal computers, printers, calculator, facsimile, copier, and multi-line phone system.

    Skill in ascertaining areas to be considered confidential and maintaining confidentiality in sensitive matters.

    Skill in providing technical guidance and assistance.

    Skill in proofreading and grammar usage.

    Skill in developing and maintaining record keeping systems.

    Skill in independent composition of Executive Office correspondence.

    Ability to effectively and courteously interact and work with others.

    Ability to assume ownership and work independently on tasks and projects while maintaining a positive attitude.

    Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities.

    Ability to review and prepare detailed written work with a high degree of accuracy.

    Ability to manage multiple complex assignments with limited supervision.

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.



    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, unless approved for flexible work schedule under Departmental policies.

    Situational telework available per Division Director discretion.

    Position is expected to consist of work predominantly within the office building.

    Required to work extended hours and/or overtime, as necessary.

    May be required to operate a state vehicle.

    May be required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
