    Job Announcement

    The City of Chandler Community Services Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Recreation Coordinator - Senior (55+) Programs. The position is scheduled to work Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

    Who we are looking for
    Our new team member will be passionate about helping Chandler seniors enjoy life to the fullest! This exciting new role offers the opportunity to create experiences that inspire learning, socialization, and wellness, supporting healthy aging in our community.

    This position is highly interactive, requiring daily engagement with seniors, the business community, and guests. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical office skills and effective interpersonal abilities to communicate with older adults, colleagues, the public, and elected officials. The primary responsibilities will include developing, implementing, and evaluating a dynamic range of programs and services for older adults at the newly expanded Tumbleweed Recreation Center. Our new team member will enjoy working with people of diverse backgrounds, providing programming that meets thier needs and interest.

    Minimum qualifications
    • An Associate's Degree in Recreation, Special Education, or related field; and
    • 2 years of experience in recreation including 2 years of supervisory experience; and
    • A First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or ability to obtain within ninety (90) days; and
    • A valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record; or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    Desired qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree with major course work in gerontology, recreation, or a related field; and
    • 2 years' experience in coordinating, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluation of services in leisure, enrichment, social, educational, wellness, and cultural programs for older adult participants; and
    • 1 year facility supervision experience; and
    • Instructional background in all areas of recreational programming; and
    • Strong interpersonal skills, experience working with the senior (55+) population, and ability to work well with the public; and
    • Computer proficient in Microsoft 365; and
    • Experience with recreation management registration software.

    This is a regular full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available.

    The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.

These policies have not been altered by the passage of Proposition 207. The use of recreational marijuana is a violation of the city's Drug Free Workplace Policy. Certain positions within the city are required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. A positive result for drugs tested under the policy, including recreational marijuana, may be grounds for withdrawal of an offer of employment or volunteer opportunity. The examination process may vary if determined necessary.
