    What You'll Be Doing

    Unique Opportunity to Work as a Part-time Librarian on the Bookmobile!


    Engage directly with Wake County citizens as the Part-time Bookmobile Librarian, where you’ll have the chance to bring the magic of the library directly to the community! From delivering captivating storytimes to working on our beloved Bookmobile, you’ll create unforgettable experiences that inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning. Your role will be essential in connecting people of all ages with the library’s resources, fostering relationships and expanding our reach to underserved areas.

    Key Responsibilities of a Bookmobile Librarian :
    • Create Engaging Programs: Unleash your creativity by designing and implementing dynamic programs for the outreach and Bookmobile services. Create these experiences to spark curiosity and joy in both children and adults.
    • Develop Relevant Collections:Take the lead in collection development for the Bookmobile, carefully curating materials that resonate with readers of all ages. Collaborate with the Program Manager to manage materials effectively, ensuring our collection is as inspiring as it is varied.
    • Drive and Maintain the Bookmobile:Embrace the opportunity to drive the Bookmobile and take pride in maintaining the vehicle and its equipment. When needed, address maintenance issues promptly or report them for resolution.
    • Build a Strong Community:Work with the Program Manager to establish and nurture strong relationships with local organizations. Promote library services and forge relationships that enhance our programs and services. Work directly with the public, providing excellent customer service and readers advisory services.
    • Collaborate with Passion: Join forces with a dedicated team to brainstorm, plan and execute projects. Work with Library Assistants to assist in the delivery of outreach services and programs. Contribute your unique strengths while fostering an environment of support, innovation and shared success.

    The Bookmobile Librarian will work 20 hours per week :

    Monday 8:00am - 12:00pm
    Tuesday 8:00am - 1:00pm
    Wednesday 9:00am - 4:00pm
    Thursday 8:00am - 1:00pm
    *Occasional nights and weekends for special events

    The Bookmobile staff works out of Library Administration located at 4020 Carya Dr., Raleigh, NC 27610, located on a Wake County campus with Historic Oakview County Park and other county buildings.

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Master's degree in Librarianship or related field: MLS, MLIS, MIS, ML from an ALA accredited program or NC program
    • No specific experience required
    • Equivalent education and experience are NOT accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Coursework in Youth Services
    • Bilingual skills in Spanish
    • Valid NC Driver License and clear driving record
