    Culture & Heritage Museums is a family of museums located in York County, SC which includes: Historic Brattonsville, the Historical Center of York County, Main Street Children’s Museums, the McCelvey Center, and Museum of York County. The organization has been accredited with the American Alliance of Museums since 2006.

    About our opportunity

    Culture & Heritage Museums’ Collections Department is excited to hire an intern to assist with preserving and processing the Museum of Western York County historical collection. The hired individual will catalog, photograph, condition report, clean, and house over 1400 artifacts, in accordance with museum standards, that were transferred to CHM in 2022. The ideal candidate is someone interested in a career in museums collections and that is reliable, self-driven, and detail oriented.

    Compensation: $15.82 per hour.
    Length of Internship: 6 months
    Work Schedule: 24 hours weekly; schedule determined between the individual and department.
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Catalogue and condition report historical artifacts of various ages, sizes, and materials.
    • Update or create physical and digital records for the processed historical artifacts.
    • Preserve the processed historical artifacts through proper storage and housing using museum quality supplies


    About you

    Education and Experience:
    Enrolled in college pursuing a degree in Museum Studies, History, Public History, or related field.

    Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.

    • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
    • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down or to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point), Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

    Annual Leave:Temporary employees do not accrue annual leave.
    Sick Leave:Temporary employees will not accrue sick leave time.
    Training:Quality training and educational programs are available at various times for county employees in order to support workforce development that is consistent with organizational objectives. Training topics may include driver training, CPR/first aid, communication, supervisor training, workplace violence, substance abuse, and various computer related classes.
