Real Property GIS Specialist with the Jefferson County Assessor Office may be what you have been searching for!
The primary role of the Real Property GIS Specialist is to establish and maintain the ownership records and cadastral data for all real property in Jefferson County. Performs complex technical work relating to real estate titles and mapping. Prepares, creates, and maintains spatial parcel data and related layers in the Geographic Information System (GIS) using software applications and other resources, such as plat maps and land surveys. Maintains and updates ownership, legal description, and other information in the tabular assessor database, which requires examination and use of recorded documents and historical records for assessment purposes. Research discrepancies to ensure the accuracy of the Assessor's records. Provides customer service by answering questions and solving problems by phone, in person, or by correspondence.
This position operates on a four-day in-office work week (Monday-Thursday).
Target Hiring Range:$22.75 - $28.44 USD Hourly Total Pay Range: 22.75 - 28.44 - 34.12 USD Hourly

Essential Duties :
The Real Property GIS Specialist responsibilities:
- Update the parcel layer as necessary. This work will involve editing both the parcel layer in GIS and the Assessor tabular database.
- Complete complex transfer of real property, by maintaining and updating ownership, legal descriptions, and other information in the Assessor database, which requires examination and use of recorded documents and historical records for assessment purposes.
- Draft legal descriptions in a GIS layer as well as on paper parcel maps as necessary. Compute acreages and record transfers of ownership for new legal descriptions. Assign new schedule numbers and parcel numbers.
- Prepare and maintain data and layers for assessment land parcel maps using software programs and related records of property ownership for the department. Research deeds, survey maps and other records to verify and correct maps. Prepare and update maps and GIS layers from court orders, legal documents, deeds, subdivision plats and surveys. Compile data and produce maps for special projects and customer requests, as assigned. Ensure completion by specified deadlines and in accordance with established goals and objectives.
- Use computerized and other office equipment, software programs and other tools to enter store and/or retrieve information and to assist customers. Establish and maintain information records. Retrieve information when requested. Compose and send appropriate correspondence. Prepare reports as needed. Ensure completion by specified deadlines and in accordance with established regulations, goals, and objectives.
- Provide customer service by answering questions and solving problems related to real estate title by phone, in person or by correspondence.
- List parcels on tax rolls. Evaluate documents for required information. Activate tax identification numbers, assign new parcel numbers, or change current numbers. Record transfers of ownership, new legal descriptions and supporting notes.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience :
- Proficiency using Esri’s ArcMap. Experience with editing parcels. Experience with Esri’s ArcPro, a plus.
- Knowledge of technical mapping and drafting techniques and procedures; knowledge of land survey procedures, survey field notes, and legal descriptions with knowledge of application to the preparation of maps and compilation of data.
- Skill in preparing maps accurately and to scale; skill in the use of visual aids and graphic arts equipment and supplies.
- Ability to comprehend and use legal descriptions in the preparation of maps and the compilation of data; ability to perform complex data computations using trigonometry, geometry, and mathematics.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

Minimal Qualifications :
- High School diploma or GED and
- 1 year of work-related experience working in an Assessors office, prior titling experience or similar, with the ability to read and understand legal descriptions per plats and surveys, and the ability to research any discrepancies with the chain of title.
- Or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Advanced education or experience in technical drawing or drafting.
- Experience working in Assessors Office.
