    Clerk-Recorder-Assessor -Registrar of Voters
    With over 183,000 parcels of land in Sonoma County, the Assessor's division of the Clerk-Recorder-Assessor-Registrar of Voters Office relies on their CAD Mapping Technicians to help provide residents of Sonoma County with accurate and timely property assessments.

    As a CAD Mapping Technician I, you will learn to:

    • Use AutoCad to create, update, and maintain Assessor maps, map records, and property records
    • Interpret legal documents, proposals, and maps to determine their effect on property boundaries, title, and taxation
    • Review and approve maps, proposals, and legal descriptions which are used by various agencies to create annexations, reorganizations, and Williamson Act contracts
    • Assist professional surveyors, engineers, and attorneys with cadastral mapping related issues and requests
    • Assist the public in-person and over the phone in areas related to property description, map interpretation, acreage status and other map related inquiries
    The ideal candidate will possess:

    • Experience and training with AutoCAD and related software tools
    • Some experience working with real estate title policies and procedures
    • Familiarity with survey maps and basic land surveying concepts
    • Attention to detail for reviewing legal documents, proposals, and maps
    • The ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively with coworkers, the public, and professionals including surveyors, engineers, and attorneys regarding assessor mapping related issues
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word

    This recruitment is being conducted to fill a CAD Mapping Technician I position. This employment list may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, or extra-help (temporary) positions as they occur during the active status of the list.     Minimum Qualifications

    Experience: Any combination of training and work experience that demonstrates possession the listed knowledge and abilities. Normally, some experience in map or engineering drafting using CAD software and some experience that included reading and interpreting legal property descriptions would provide this opportunity. Experience working with real estate title policies and procedures is highly desirable.

    Education: Any combination of educational course work and training that demonstrates possession of the listed knowledge and abilities. Normally, academic courses or training in mechanical and computer drafting, engineering, surveying, trigonometry, geometry, and related fields would provide such an opportunity. Specific training the in AutoCAD (or other software used by the department) cadastral mapping techniques and other software with which it can be integrated is highly desirable.

    Note: Employees in the class of Cadastral Mapping Technician I serve a 12-month probationary period. Employees newly hired or reinstated into the class of Cadastral Mapping Technician II serve a 12-month probationary period while employees promoted into the class serve a 6-month probationary period.

    License: Possession of a valid driver’s license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Knowledge of: techniques, principles, practices, and equipment used in creating, maintaining and updating Assessor’s maps and mapping records; legal property descriptions and records; real estate title policies and procedures; basic computer aided drafting software such as AutoCAD; mechanical and CAD drafting techniques and principles; surveying principles; geometry and trigonometry.

    Ability to: use mechanical drafting and CAD software to accurately create, update and maintain Assessor’s maps and mapping records; learn to interpret title and property laws and records; understand legal property descriptions, maps, drawings, and records; perform arithmetic, geometric, and trigonometric calculations; learn to identify and resolve irregularities, ambiguities, and problems encountered while producing accurate maps and records; communicate effectively both orally and in writing with surveyors, engineers, representatives of other agencies, and the public; follow oral, written, and diagrammatic instructions; establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and others.

    Candidates demonstrating possession of the minimum qualifications will be placed on an employment list in order of most qualified to least qualified based on the achieved score received in the Application & Supplemental Questionnaire Appraisal Examination which evaluates the education, training, experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, and other qualifications that you demonstrate in your application and/or response to the supplemental questionnaire.
