Job Summary We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance Team! The purpose of this position is to lead, working with other accountants and finance team members, providing guidance and completion of general ledger and related accounting duties. Roles and responsibilities of the multiple accounting positions may change over time, due to cross-training and skill development. General responsibilities may include such things as: Supervising the monthly close of the City's General Ledger; managing financial activities of the City's grants, capital assets, leases and component units; accounting for and reconciling accounts including, but not limited to cash, investments, receivables, payables, payroll transactions, long term debt, bond issuance, fund balances, accruals, revenues and expenses; providing system support on the general ledger system. This position also provides support for special projects and the annual audit. The position also provides research and problem-solving support for departmental personnel and will serve as a lead accountant role in their areas of expertise

- Ability to analyze and reconcile subsidiary ledgers and the general ledger and make adjustments which includes communication with both external and internal city sources related to required corrective actions needed by others.
- Ability to analyze funds for reasonableness of revenues, expenditures, and balance sheet items, prepare reconciliations as needed, make any necessary adjustments, and prepare audit preparation schedules for financial statements.
- Monthly, quarterly and annual account reconciliations and activity roll-forwards
- Grant management reporting
- Capital asset and lease reporting
- Cash Management/Treasury reporting
- Annual year-end audit support
- Maintenance of the City's computerized financial management system
Minimum Qualifications•
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred, or combination of experience and education.

Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible technical accounting experience. Municipal accounting experience preferred.

Licenses: Texas Class C Driver’s License

Certifications Required: Certified Public Accountant preferred

Reading: Advanced - Ability to read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents. Ordinarily, such education is obtained at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Math: Advanced - Ability to apply fundamental concepts of theories, work with advanced mathematical operations methods, and functions of real and complex variables. Ordinarily, such education is obtained at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Writing: Advanced - Ability to write editorials, journals, speeches, manuals, or critiques. Ordinarily, such education is obtained at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Managerial: Receives direction: The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices. Assignment is reviewed upon completion.
