Performs skilled mechanical work analyzing and diagnosing problems. Inspects, replaces, and/or repairs defective parts. Performs preventative maintenance on City of Orlando automobiles, tractors, mowers, trucks, street sweepers, equipment, fire trucks and equipment, police cars and/or motorcycles, and small engines. Assigns and oversees work and training of lower-level mechanics. Performs a variety of tasks requiring specialized knowledge and skills. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness.
Minimum Qualifications: Mechanic I - (1)High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate
and one (1) year mechanical experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Valid Florida Class B CDL with Air Brakes required. Must own a standard set of mechanic tools.
Mechanic II - High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate a
nd three (3) years of mechanical experience in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required at the time of employment. Valid Class B CDL required. Must be able to read and interpret plans and technical bulletins. Must own a standard set of mechanic tools. Supervisory training desired.
Mechanic III - High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate
and three (3) years of mechanical experience in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Class B CDL required . Must be able to read and interpret plans and technical bulletins. Must own a standard set of mechanic tools. Supervisory training desired.
Mechanic IV - High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate
and four (4) years of mechanical experience in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Class B CDL with Air Brakes required . Must satisfactorily complete two (2) ASE Block Tests or meet all passing requirements for four (4) required academic titles from the mechanical listing. Must complete 6,075 hours of on-the-job training, subject to verification by the "Review Board." Must be able to read and interpret plans and technical bulletins. Must own a standard set of mechanic tools. Supervisory training desired.
All Positions
STREETS DIVISION: Mechanics require a valid Florida Class B CDL. Some positions may require a Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) or Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Intermediate Certification within three (3) months of hire.
The employee must accumulate four (4) years of experience in the appropriate mechanical field and furnish documentation of 6,075 on-the-job training credits in specific competency areas, subject to verification by the "Review Board." All on-the-job training hours competencies must be completed at no less than 80% of the required hours, provided total hours are met.
