    DUTIES

    HOURLY SALARY

    $20.47 per hour to $24.08 per hour; and $22.12 per hour to $27.49 per hour

    NOTES :
    Work hours may be limited to 32 hours a week.The current salary range is subject to change. Please confirm the starting salary with the hiring department before accepting a job offer.
    DUTIES

    An Airport Guide directs passengers to appropriate lines or locations in and around airport facilities; provides a wide range of airport/airline information to passengers; assists passengers in the completion of necessary immigration paperwork; assists with foreign language translations; transports elected and appointed officials to various locations on air property; conducts visitor tours; plans, organizes and

    hosts special events, functions, and meetings; serves as a museum docent; represents the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) at community events; answers questions from service groups, grade schools, local colleges, and coordinates educational outreach events, programs, and activities; assists professional staff at press conferences and other media-related activities; assists with crowd control during airport emergencies; performs clerical and administrative tasks; may plan and supervise the work of other Airport Guides; and does related work.

    REQUIREMENT(S)/MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)

    Legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.

    SELECTIVE CERTIFICATION

    In accordance with Charter Section 1010 (b) and Civil Service Rule 5.31, selective certification will be used for some positions that require the ability to speak or write a language other than English. Only persons who have the necessary language skills may be certified in order of standing on the eligible list to fill such positions.     PROCESS NOTES
    Some positions may require a valid California driver’s license. Candidates may not be eligible for appointment to these positions if their record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or conviction of a major moving violation (such as DUI). Some positions may require a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) clearance.An Airport Guide may be assigned part-time or full-time schedules, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.

    APPLICATION DEADLINE

    In accordance with Civil Service Rule 4.2, all applicants who apply may not be tested in this examination. To meet anticipated hiring needs, only a limited number of qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the written test in the following order: 1) Applicants currently employed by the City of Los Angeles who meet the minimum requirements or are on a reserve list; 2) Remaining applicants who meet the minimum requirements in sufficient numbers to meet hiring needs based on a random sampling of those qualified candidates. Applications submitted during the filing period may be kept on file in the event that additional applicants need to be tested to meet hiring needs.

    QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW

    Should a large number of qualified applicants file for this examination, each applicant’s qualifications may be evaluated based on the information in the applicant’s City employment application. Those applicants considered possessing the greatest likelihood of successfully performing the duties of an Airport Guide based on this information will be invited to participate in the written tests.

    SELECTION PROCESS

    The examination for Airport Guide will consist entirely of a 100% weighted multiple-choice test. In the on-line multiple-choice test, the following competencies may be evaluated: composure; interpersonal skills; customer service; teamwork; tolerance; Job Knowledge, including knowledge of: general principles and practices of proper workplace conduct; airport guest experience standards sufficient to carry out Department core values; general office and clerical tasks in order to assist with preparing for community events, conferences, and community outreach; and other necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities

    The multiple-choice test will be proctored and administered on-line during a single session. Candidates invited to participate in the on-line multiple-choice test will be able to take the test from a remote location (i.e., their home) using a computer with a webcam and a reliable internet connection. Candidates will receive an e-mail from the City of Los Angeles outlining the dates and specific steps on how to take the multiple-choice test on-line. It is anticipated that the remote proctored multiple-choice test will be administered between TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2024 and MONDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2024. Candidates who do not complete and submit the multiple-choice test on-line using a computer by the specified date and time will not be considered further in this examination.

    Notice :

    If you receive and accept an offer of employment to a regular position with the City of Los Angeles, your employee benefit coverage (including health and dental coverage as well as life insurance) will commence approximately six weeks after your original regular appointment.
