    Overview

    The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is seeking an Emergency Communications Supervisor to provide direct supervision to our Emergency Communications Operators. We are looking for someone with at least two (2) years of progressively responsible duties in an emergency communications center, including processing emergency and non-emergency phone calls and use of radio equipment to coordinate with Fire, Medical and/or Public Safety Responders.

    Our center is one of five (5) public safety answering points in Larimer County providing critical public services for the safety of our communities. Supervisors are required to work an assigned shift, as this is a working Supervisor position. Must be able to work shifts in a 24/7 environment including weekends and holidays and be available to work when required to meet operational needs.

    LCSO is looking for someone who is eager to use their skills and experience to train and coach others. The position is responsible for training, evaluating and coaching LCSO Emergency Communications Operators. The Emergency Communications Supervisor also performs the duties of an Emergency Communications Operator, dispatching required law enforcement, fire, medical, emergency services personnel and equipment, while providing administrative and supervisory support to the Communications Center.

    *Starting pay range for this position is $81,849 - $98,219 annually.

    Responsibilities

    Specifically, this position:
    • Exercises direct supervision over Emergency Communications Operators.
    • Provides administrative/supervisory support to the Communications Manager in coordinating the work of the Sheriff's Office Communications Center.
    • Provides direct and indirect supervision to subordinate employees within the Emergency Communications Section; provides broad direction of all functions within the Emergency Communications Center; oversees policy and procedure standards; evaluates performance of emergency communications operators; conducts second-level review of performance evaluation; resolves pervasive and complex personnel problems.
    • Provides input on policies, procedures, goals, and objectives of the communications center.
    • Coordinates emergency communications operator schedules to ensure adequate coverage always; completes time accounting documentation and finds coverage when scheduled employees cannot assume assigned shifts.
    • Handles complaints from the public to ensure they are effectively resolved in a timely manner.
    • Coordinates computer-aided dispatch (CAD) programs, including assistance in completing CAD configurations.
    • Reports problems with all communications equipment and provides input on the purchase of new equipment as needed.
    • Provides radio and other training to volunteer agencies and other agency components.
    • Performs a variety of clerical tasks such as filing, record keeping, typing, report and tape preparation, and computer system updates.
    • Orders supplies, and printing as needed.
    • Performs all duties of Emergency Communications Operators as necessary.

    Nonessential Functions
    • When a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of Commissioners, all Larimer County employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker.
    • Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.


    Qualifications

    • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible duties in a communications center required; experience working for a law enforcement agency preferred.
    • High School diploma or GED required.
    • Possession of CPR certification by date of hire required.
    • Possession of EMD certification required.
    • NCIC/CCIC Certification required.

    Supplemental Information

    Schedule:

    Full-time position with availability to work on shift schedule as required.
    Weekend days may vary but will be required, including holidays.
    Ability to carry a pager and be in an on-call status as backup and to cover vacations.
