    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Under the direction of the Park Management Team, this position is responsible for performing complex (journey-level building maintenance and construction work including all phases in the daily operation and maintenance of park facilities, grounds and equipment for Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park. Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, hand tools and power tools. Provides quality visitor services by issuing permits, collecting revenue, providing information and registering visitors using an automated registration system. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations, performs resource management tasks and interprets the parks natural resources. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Completes all reports as needed. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    Graduation from High School or GED.

    Experience:

    Three years facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.

    Licensure:

    Applicant must possess a valid State driver's license.

    NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon maintaining required licenses.

    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS

    Experience:

    Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience:

    Experience working with the public.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge of general facility, equipment and grounds maintenance;

    Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks;

    Knowledge of accounting/accountability of revenue collection;

    Knowledge of basic mathematics;

    Knowledge of general custodial duties.

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;

    Skill in using standard office equipment;

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

    Skill in using hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment;

    Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions;

    Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment;

    Ability to follow park rules and regulations;

    Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities;

    Ability to work independently with little or no supervision;

    Ability to accurately handle cash and account for revenue collected;

    Ability to work as a member of a team;

    Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use;

    Required to work 40 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;

    Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations;

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;

    Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

    Required to operate a State vehicle;

    Required to operate a 15 or less passenger tram;

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures;

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
