    Minimum Qualifications
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Valid current Texas Class “C” Driver License.
    • May require valid Texas Commercial Driver License with endorsements within 120 days of hire.
    • Must be able to become certified for Respiratory Protection and Confined-Space Entry Program within six (6) months of employment and maintain certification.

    Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant receives wastewater flow from Austin Water Utility’s sanitary sewer collection system and treats it before returning it to the Colorado River.

    The Treatment Plant Worker position provides site support by performing building and campus maintenance and assists technicians in the maintenance and repair of plant equipment.

    Retention Incentive Bonus:

    This position may be eligible for an Incentive Bonus of up to $3,000!
    • $500 after 90 days.
    • $500 after 180 days.
    • $1,000 after 1 year.
    • $1,000 after 2 years.

    7113 FM 969, Austin, TX 78724

    Days and Hours: Monday - Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    This position is considered essential and may be required to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and/or callback work.

    Driving Requirement:
    This position requires a valid current Texas Class “C” Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    Confined-Space Entry Requirements:
    • Candidates must be able to work in environments which may have hazardous atmospheres, or in confined spaces where there is limited or restricted means for entry and exit, or where the activities of an employee are hindered.
    • Candidates must be able to qualify for the Utility’s Respiratory Protection Program.
    • Candidates must be clean shaven to meet the Utility’s Respiratory Protection Program guidelines which requires the use of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus ( SCBA ).


    Climbing Requirements:
    • Candidates must be able to perform duties with confidence at sites where climbing heights of up to 200 feet is required on ladders and descending into confined spaces up to 100 feet deep with the use of a required SRL body harness that supports weight as designated by work area.

    This has been designated as an Essential Employee position.     Pay Range
    $21.63 - $23.79 per hour

    Preferred Experience:
    • Manual labor experience including but not limited to equipment and building maintenance, routine painting, plumbing, or construction.
    • Experience using various industrial lawn care equipment such as gas powered weed-eater & blowers, hydro-static riding mower, chain saws, pneumatic power tools, pressure washer, and hand tools.
    • Industrial Math Skills.
    • Knowledge of safety practices required in an industrial or shop environment.
    • Organizational Skills.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


    Operates and checks a variety of powered and non-powered equipment including, but not limited to, backhoe, bobcat, weed-eater, vacuum cleaner, buffer, lawn mower, rider mower, and front-end loader. Adjusts equipment, including chemical feed, as directed. Cleans and maintains equipment and facilities. Assists plant operation and maintenance technicians to perform mechanical maintenance tasks. Assists, under direction of licensed operator, with process control tasks such as a basic flow control, sampling, basic laboratory testing, normal operations of pumps and blowers, and adjusting chemical feeds. Handles a variety of hazardous and non-hazardous solvents and chemicals. Reads and interprets simple drawings and diagrams. Reads gauges and meters. Maintains records, enters and retrieves data using CMMS software. May act as member of confined space team and serve as entrant or assistant.

    • Knowledge of general maintenance practices and procedures.
    • Knowledge of basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimalized numbers, fractions, and percentages.
    • Knowledge of ground and facility maintenance.
    • Knowledge of various powered equipment.
    • Knowledge of hand and power tools.
    • Skill in operating motorized equipment.
    • Ability to learn basic computer skills.
    • Ability to work in environments that may have hazardous atmospheres.
    • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights of up to 200 feet and to work in confined spaces 100-feet deep.
    • Ability to work in permit and non-permit confined spaces.
    • Ability to safely wear anti-fall ( SRL ) body harness for confined space entry that supports up to 283 pounds.
    • Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, twist, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, and lift/carry up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted.
    • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
    • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
    • Ability to read and follow technical guidelines and standard operation procedures.
    • Ability to take simple readings from meters, gauges, control panels, and testing and monitoring equipment.
    • Ability to meet and maintain driver eligibility standards detailed in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program.
