    Essential Duties

    THE POSITION

    This is the paraprofessional class responsible for a variety of library duties. Under general supervision incumbents perform library operations following procedures and policy and gain public reference, programming, and/or material selection experience. Assignment can be made to: 1) reference and reader’s advisory services; 2) collection development; 3) adult and youth services and 4) acquisitions and copy cataloging of library materials.

    The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill extra-help positions only as vacancies occur or the need arises.
    Note: upcoming 3% COLA salary increase effective 11/10/24

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    Education: Possession of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in humanities, social science, education or natural science.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver’s license may be required.

    Selection Process

    10/24/24 - Deadline to submit application and required documents.
    Week of 11/04/24 - Tentative week for departmental interviews for most qualified applicants.

    Based on the information provided in the application documents, the qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination . Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a supplemental questionnaire assessment, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. Responses to supplemental questions may be used as screening and testing mechanisms and will be used to assess an applicant’s ability to advance in the process; as such, responses to supplemental questions should be treated as test examination responses.     A minimum score of 70% is required to continue in the selection process, unless otherwise announced.
