    The LA County Board of Supervisors recently declared a local state of emergency for homelessness, and the County is working to revise and expand our response to help all who are affected. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us in the mission of addressing issues like housing, mental health, and substance use.     The Department of Mental Health is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Graphic Artist vacancies related to the homelessness crisis.

    Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.Before the end of your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.


    Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Graphic Artist

    Essential Job Functions

    Under technical supervision, designs, prepares, and produces layouts, organizing the content of publications, such as reports, booklets, brochures, pamphlets, manuals, bulletins, flyers, scrolls, and various other productions by utilizing a knowledge of design, typography, composition, production and printing techniques, and a variety of styles and media.

    Consults with clients requesting artwork to clarify and discuss requests and resolve problems arising from clients' preferences, methods of production, production requirements, and budgetary and time limitations.

    Creates and coordinates the production of large indoor and outdoor, two and three dimensional exhibits and displays, and produces a variety of display and visual aid materials, such as signs, posters, handouts, presentations, models, slides, and charts.

    Produces a variety of freehand artwork, such as drawings and sketches, illustrations, logograms, and background scenes.

    Makes editorial suggestions to improve and clarify text.

    Contacts vendors to obtain graphic arts supplies, programs, apps, and other tools.

    Contacts vendors for the purpose of obtaining paper stock, type, and printing services; obtains and computes estimates in printing costs, including set up, press time, collating, binding, and paper.

    Researches data and trends in order to select a theme to create a design which is an effective pictorial or graphic presentation of the data or subject to be publicized.

    Utilizes a computer and specialize graphics software to create graphic designs.

    Requirements

    SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
    Three (3) years commercial art experience in the preparation and production of manual and graphic art presentations.

    You MUST meet the above requirement(s) at the time of filing in order to be appointed to fill any vacancies related to this recruitment.

    PHYSICAL CLASS:
    Physical Class II - Light. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
