    POSITION SUMMARY:

    A Reserve is a part time position, which works under the direct supervision of on-duty Fire Department officers. Performs functional and administrative duties in providing EMS, rescue, firefighting and hazardous materials emergency responses.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    Safely and efficiently performs EMS, rescue, firefighting, hazardous materials responses, and other emergency operations.Provides EMS at assigned level of certification.Non-emergency functional responsibilities include training, public relations and education, fire inspections, investigations, vehicle and equipment maintenance and station cleaning and maintenance.Follows standard operational procedures and guidelines.Interpersonal contact with the department’s membership, the general public, business owners and staff may be necessary, maintaining professionalism as spelled out in the department’s mission statement. Uphold Department Mission statement: Provide Service through Dedication, Professionalism, and Excellence. Performs other related duties as required and/or designated.
    CORE COMPETENCIES:
    • Learn, observe and follow safe firefighting and work practices. Specifically:
      • Principles and practices of modern fire suppression and prevention.
      • Procedures and equipment used in modern firefighting and emergency medical response.
      • Operation use and maintenance of pumps, engines, fire apparatus and other equipment.
      • Basic principles of emergency medical service provision, basic or advanced life support.
      • Proficiency in operating within the Incident Command System.
      • Methods and techniques of handling hazardous materials.
      • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
      • Geography and street layout of the City and district.
      • Methods and techniques of public relations and instruction related to fire suppression and prevention.
    • Deal effectively with upset or emotional persons or patients.
    • Think and act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
    • As assigned, drive fire apparatus or ambulance safely in varying traffic and weather conditions.
    • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
    • Prepare a variety of technical and operational reports.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS

    Necessary:
    • Must be 18 years of age.
    • Must possess a High School diploma or GED.
    • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
    • Must possess current certifications in all the following:
      • Firefighter I
      • Colorado State EMT Certificate
      • American Heart Association Basic Life Support/CPR for Health Care Providers Certificate
      • Hazardous Materials/Operations Level
    • Complete ICS 100, 200, 700 & 800 within 1 year of employment.
    • Obtain and maintain NWCG Firefighter type 2 or greater qualification within 1 year of employment.
    • Must pass annual Physical Ability Test & NWCG Arduous Pack Test
    • Must be in excellent health, free from any mental or physical conditions which may prohibit effective performance on the job.
    • Must be able to pass preliminary testing, such as Physical Ability Test (or present a current CPAT certificate), pre-employment entrance exam with a passing score, and a psychological evaluation.

    JOB LOCATION: 806 Cooper Ave, Glenwood Springs, CO or as assigned

    FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

    CATEGORY: Part-Time

    HOURS: Based on a minimum of 24 hours/month with a maximum of six 24-hour shifts within 4 weeks.
