This position will be filled based on previous experience as an engineering student intern. The entry salary is posted above, with year-two rate of $ 22.62 per hour
and year-three rate of $24.19 per hour.Job Location: Willow Springs or Poplar Bluff officeThe bridge intern d uties may range from technician-level to entry-level professional depending on student knowledge, skills, and abilities. The bridge intern assists the District Bridge Engineer; duties ranging from safety inspections of state-owned bridges to design computations for transportation related structures, such as routine bridges, retaining walls, and box culverts. Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision.
- Assists with safety inspections of state-owned bridges and prepares written reports of the conditions of the structure.
- Assists with in-depth bridge inspections of all major river bridges using under-bridge inspection equipment.
- Records in the transportation management system bridge inspection database structure ratings and degrees of
deterioration of all state bridges and culverts. - Creates and updates bridge and culvert location maps.
- Rates bridges for load capacities and the federal bridge inventory as required by state statutes and national standards.
- Attends project meetings that include department personnel, city, county, state, federal personnel and private consultants.
- Evaluates and utilizes engineering software and develops comprehensive spreadsheets.
- Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: - Must be enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program; for engineering candidates, program must be ABET-accredited.
- Must possess, and maintain, an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher out of 4.0.
- Must have completed at least 30 credit hours.
