    Job Announcement

    The City of Chandler Community Services Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Library Specialist at our Basha Branch. This role requires flexibility, with shifts scheduled for days, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays. It also involves outreach responsibilities and the ability to cover a range of library programs for youth and teens.

    Chandler Public Library inspires intellectual discovery, creative entertainment, and life-long learning through robust information resources that connect communities to a world of knowledge and new ideas. As a system of four libraries in all geographic areas of the community and a collection of nearly 500,000 books, DVDs, and a wide variety of digital resources, we bring people, information, and ideas together to read, learn, connect, and succeed. Our libraries continuously reflect on the current and emerging needs of patrons and choose to advance literacy and champion inclusive learning experiences for all people by fostering accessibility and embracing new technology.

    Who we are looking for
    Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone who engages in specialized public library functions and may assist with a variety of responsibilities related to the preparation and organization of library programs and evaluation and acquisition of materials and services using fundamental library standards, procedures and techniques.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • A High School Diploma or GED; and
    • 2 years of general library experience; and
    • A valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record; or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    Desired Qualifications
    • Experience in youth and teen programming, including Storytimes and after-school activities; and
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both children and teenagers; and
    • Proven ability to manage behavioral issues, particularly with teens, while fostering positive relationships; and
    • Cultural awareness and the ability to develop inclusive and diverse programming.

    This is a regular full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available.

    The City of Chandler will conduct a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.

Certain positions within the city are required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. The examination process may vary if determined necessary.
