This position is eligible for a tired sign-on bonus up to $5,000. What You'll Be DoingWe are looking for a Project Manager with experience in managing all phases of a wide variety of capital projects types, including public safety facilities, libraries, multi-services facilities, detention projects, recreation and entertainment facilities, and additionally, public school development. In addition to managing Wake County CIP projects, this position will also serve as a liaison between Wake County Government and the Wake County School System for the purpose of coordinating capital planning of schools with the county government budget process.
Essential Functions: - Provide turnkey project management including planning, fiscal oversight, team coordination, design supervision, and construction administration for multiple design and construction projects for county government
- Prepare project schedules and complex capital project budgets and monitor this information to assure compliance with the county’s Capital Improvement Program
- Skillfully serve in a liaison role between county government and the school system and develop trusting and valuable relationships with appropriate schools staff
- Gain an understanding of the school system’s development of design guidelines and cost models and the overall process of the development of public schools projects
- Serve as trusted advisor to county management while working in liaison role for the planning and implementation of the schools capital budget
About Our TeamFacilities Design & Construction manages the planning, design and construction of all capital improvement projects undertaken by Wake County Government. We also act as the bridge between the County Managers Office, the public, design consultants, and construction contractors. Of course, we also coordinate with other local governments, internal county departments and private and nonprofit groups. The Basics (Required Education and Experience) - Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Landscape Architecture or Construction Management
- Three years of experience in facilities project management, and/or architectural, engineering or site design
- Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) - Bachelor’s or equivalent in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management
- Eight years of experience in managing all phases of design and construction of capital projects
- Licensed professional preferred in Architecture, Engineering or General Contracting
How Will We Know You're 'The One'? - Knowledge of planning and design of new building construction and renovations for a wide variety of project types, including schools
- Ability and proven record of successfully developing and managing complex capital projects that comply with the county’s Capital Improvement Program
- Ability to identify problems, determine possible solutions and actively work with others to resolve issues with sound judgement, reach consensus and make prompt decisions
- Ability to work at all levels with professional staff, design consultants, construction contractors, community members, and elected officials
- Ability to be an excellent communicator and be willing to work in liaison role between county management and the Wake County School System
- Knowledge of jobsite and safety requirements specific to construction industry and OSHA standards
- Comfortable and experienced in giving presentations to public officials
