    Salary Level: $ 16.28 per hour

    Examples Of Duties

    This position implements and manages appropriate and effective extramural and intramural programs within the building.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    1. Plans, develops, coordinates, manages, supervises and implements an effective athletic program and intramural program for the building; determines coaching needs within the building; confers with coach on coaching assignments within his/her program; recommends personnel to the principal to fill coaching assignment within the building; ensure all coaches hired meet school district and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA)requirements; provides input to administrative team for program evaluation.

    2. Supervises the day-to-day operation of the school’s athletic program; supervises extramural contests conducted at the building; meets with coaches to discuss areas of mutual concern; provides input for evaluation of coaches; assists coaches in the administration of their sport; enforces district regulations; coordinates activities with other athletic directors; manages the intramural budget at the school.

    3. Evaluates present programs, facilities and makes recommendations where necessary; monitors boys and girls’ programs to assure there is no discrimination on the basis of sex in violation of Title IX.

    4. Develops the intramural schedule at the building, meeting the unique needs of the building facility; assists in the coordination of facility usage with other programs; supervises extramural and intramural activities at the building; schedules transportation necessary to meet athletic commitments.

    5. Identifies and orders equipment and supplies through ASB; oversees the labeling, storage, distribution, and inventory of the extramural equipment.

    6. Prepares yearly budgets with assistance of coaches; submits yearly budgets to the ASB for approval; administers the approved budget; maintains program equipment; provides prompt and accurate athletic payroll to the district Athletic Office.

    7. Ensures that all students have a physical examination, a signed activities contract, ASB card, and emergency card on file.

    8. Ensures coaches have a current First Aid/CPR certificate; maintains files on each coach; ensures coach’s questionnaire is on file in the building and district Athletic Office; ensures all non-district coaches have been processed by Human Resources prior to beginning work; communicates all changes pertaining to officials to the district Athletic Director.

    OTHER JOB DUTIES

    1. Attends all district and building athletic meetings as called by the district athletic director; informs coaches of required meetings.

    2. Performs necessary correspondence duties; maintains bulletin and reader board space to promote and publicize extramural and intramurals activities.

    3. Updates knowledge by attending clinics, workshops, and maintaining familiarity with current athletic programs, trends and innovative ideas; keeps current with regard to rule changes as adopted by WIAA and the school district.

    4. Performs related duties as assigned.

    CONDITIONS

    Work with coaches and other staff in indoor and outdoor settings; physical ability to lift and move sports equipment; may be exposed to infectious diseases and inclement weather.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    Graduation from high school; or equivalent and a minimum of three years of experience as a coach; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work and that meets federal and state requirements.

    Allowable Substitution

    Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be evaluated by the Human Resources department for comparability.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Knowledge of building, Tacoma School District, and WIAA policies, regulations, procedures and guidelines related to athletics.

    Knowledge of effective athletic program practices.

    Ability to provide a safe environment for extramural/intramural activities.

    Ability to ensure compliance with WIAA rules and standards.

    Ability to exercise fairness in dealing with student athletes.

    Ability to conduct oneself in an ethical and exemplary manner at all times.

    Ability to work cooperatively with staff.

    Ability to maintain poise and composure during athletic events.

    Ability to relate to students of differing athletic abilities.

    Ability to demonstrate reasonable, reliable and regular attendance.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective work and student relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socio-economic setting.

    Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate athletic activities.

    Ability to set-up and maintain accurate records and files.

    Licenses/Special Requirements

    First Aid Certificate and CPR card are required.

    Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
