    The Position

Selected candidates should expect to work out of CCHS facilities in Martinez or Concord.

    Contra Costa Health Services includes a Health Plan, Public Health, Hazardous Materials, Environmental Health, Housing Homeless and Health, Regional Medical Center, Behavioral Health, Emergency Management Services and a full complement of ambulatory care sites including school-based services.

    The Health Services Information Technology Director of Infrastructure oversees 60+ staff accountable for IT Infrastructure solutions and services that meet and align with the needs of Contra Costa Health Services. This position will lead a team of service desk, networking, data center, end user devices, active directory, EHR architects, and Project Management professionals responsible for the health and delivery of services utilized 24x7x365.

    The position leads the Systems Administration, Network, Service Desk, Computer Operations and Technical Services functions and their primary responsibilities include leading the research, design, implementation, and support for all cloud and on-premises infrastructure and endpoint devices to support the operations of CCHS. The technology infrastructure implemented must align with CCHS’ business objectives and achieve a high level of customer service as well as deliver resilience and agility to ever changing needs and regulations. Ideal candidates are technology evangelists who can communicate effectively with executive leadership. This role also provides leadership, direction, and coordination for many IT governance and compliance areas. Experience creating, implementing, and executing IT policies is required.

    Typical Tasks:
    • Implementation of technology strategy and operations, data management, IT business operations to improve cost efficiency, service quality, customer satisfaction, and IT operational effectiveness.
    • Ensure that critical infrastructure including servers and network used by County’s Hospital, Clinics, Health Plan, Public Health and Behavioral Health are running and supported 24/7 and proactively upgraded
    • Oversee the Service Desk with 20+ staff that answers support calls 24/7 from Doctors, Nurses and other Health Services staff.
    • Oversee the IT Operational Team with 10+ staff that works 24/7 to support critical automated jobs and systems.
    • Responsible for providing technology leadership and direction for Health Services information technology infrastructure including desktop and network design and architecture, network and data communications, data center, and disaster recovery; responsible for the IT management operations and implementation life cycle for all IT projects, including infrastructure development/expansion, and cloud infrastructure.
    • Develop, coach, and provide leadership to staff; leads, engages, and motivates teams to reach the highest level of quality and productivity.
    • Participate in and/or oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of departmental IT policies, procedures, processes, and approaches.
    • Attends and participates in professional group meetings and stays current on new trends and innovations in the field of information technology.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Possession of a Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university with a major in computer science, business administration, public administration or a closely related field.

    Experience: Five (5) years of full-time experience or its equivalent in an administrative capacity in a health services agency or program performing programming, systems and procedures, or computer operations work. Two years of the required experience must have included supervisory responsibilities.

    Substitution: Either (1) possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in computer science, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of the required non-supervisory experience; or (2) additional qualifying experience of the type noted above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years. No substitution for the required two (2) years of supervisory experience.

    Selection Process
