    Position Description

    Tacoma Water is seeking a dedicated and experienced Systems Support Manager to join our Operational Technology Services team. In this critical role, you will oversee the management and optimization of our technology applications and infrastructure to support our organization's strategic goals. You will lead a team of six employees, responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and optimization of Tacoma Water's technology systems and portfolio of applications.

    The successful candidate will possess a proven track record in technology management, with a strong understanding of IT infrastructure, applications, and security. They will have experience with software integrations, utilizing API, middleware, ETL, or other technologies. They will have excellent leadership and communication skills, as well as a passion for driving innovation and efficiency.

    Primary Responsibilities Include:
    Lead System Administration & Application Support Teams
    • Responsible for prioritizing, assigning tasks, making, or changing work assignments
    • Monitor work performance of staff and provide feedback and professional development opportunities
    • Resolve complex technical and resource issues
    Technology Architecture & Solutions Management
    • Provide technology and applications systems expertise on decisions and priorities involving Tacoma Water's technology architecture
    • Determine system architecture and design for technology and software solutions
    • Establish and implement technology and system strategic plan, standards, and frameworks to strengthen Tacoma Water's technology architecture, integration, interoperability, and security posture
    • Coordinate development and implementation of service level agreements with Utility Technology Services and City of Tacoma Information Technology department
    Project Support
    • Provide technical guidance to project teams
    • Evaluate technology project designs, identify and monitor progress toward project goals, determine interoperability with current technologies and architectures, and ensure adherence to Tacoma Water and Tacoma Public Utilities established technology frameworks and standards
    • Coordinate cross-functional project teams and report progress as appropriate
    Financial & Contract Management
    • Assist in the development and management of Capital and O&M budget for Operational Technology Services group, including sponsorship of technology projects, approval of disbursement for vendor services, contract management, and purchasing card purchases
    • Manage Tacoma Water technology contracts, vendors, and stakeholder communication
    • Supervise contract resources engaged to augment work group skills gaps in critical subject areas


    Qualifications

    Minimum Education*
    Bachelor's degree in information technology or directly related field

    Minimum Experience*
    6 years of progressively responsible information technology and project management experience in the area of assignment including 1 year as a technology supervisor or manager

    *Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

    Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
    Some assignments may require a Washington State Driver's License

    Desired Qualification
    • At least 3 years of management experience leading a technical team
    • Experience in the water, wastewater or power industry
    • Experience with project management principles and techniques such as Waterfall, Agile, and Scrum
    • TOGAF, ITIL or other industry certification

    Other Employment Information

    Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.

    Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.

    Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
