    CHILD SUPPORT SERVICES
    The El Dorado County Child Support Services is committed to transforming lives and improving futures for the families of El Dorado County. The Child Support Enforcement Program, authorized under Title IV-D of the Social Security Act, provides services to assist parents in collecting child support and in securing health insurance coverage for their children.

    THE OPPORTUNITY Use your knowledge and skills to assist those in your community! The Child Support Specialist I/II performs a wide variety of child support duties consisting of maintaining a caseload, and locating and interviewing custodial and non-custodial parents and others to elicit factual information for the purpose of establishing child support obligations and enforcing child support laws; arranges for support payments when possible; prepares cases for court hearings as necessary.

    The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
    • Manage a general caseload consisting of child support legal actions and the establishment, enforcement, and collection of child support payment obligations based on established guidelines.
    • Coordinate appointments for personal interviews with custodial and non-custodial parents, employers, and attorneys.
    • Develop and analyze information for the establishment of paternity.
    • Use a variety of methods, systems, and procedures for locating information on custodial and non-custodial parents' assets, income, and liabilities.
    • Coordinate and/or conduct genetic tests.
    • Evaluate income and expense data of custodial and non-custodial parents to determine and recommend child support payment obligations based on established guidelines.

    Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following minimum qualifications:

    Child Support Specialist I:

    Two (2) years of full-time clerical experience which included interaction with the public;

    OR

    One (1) year of full-time experience performing debt collections duties which included interviewing others for the purpose of collecting information;

    OR

    Completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units of college.

    Child Support Specialist II: One (1) year of full-time experience performing duties equivalent to the County's class of Child Support Specialist I.

    Licenses and Certifications:

    • Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California or Nevada Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.

    RECRUITMENT PROCESS
    The Human Resources Department will screen all applications to identify qualified candidates. After screening, qualified candidates will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the recruitment process.

    A written exam will be utilized to determine an applicant's ranking and placement on the eligibility list. The online examination has been tentatively scheduled for 10/24/2024. If it is determined that you meet the minimum qualifications and are therefore eligible to participate, you will be notified by email at least one week prior to the examination.

    If you have taken this examination within six (6) months prior to the scheduled date of the examination, your score will automatically be transferred to this exam and you are not permitted sit for this examination. If you have taken this examination from greater than six (6) months but within twelve (12) months prior to the scheduled date of the examination, you may elect to transfer that examination score or sit for the examination again; you must contact Human Resources prior to the scheduled exam date to request that your previous score be transferred.

    A transferred examination score does not guarantee passing the current examination administration. Examination pass points are set in accordance with the EEOC Uniform Employee Selection Guidelines.

    The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Child Support Specialist I/II. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, limited term and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
