    Are you ready to play a crucial role in the safety and security of our community? The Larimer County Sheriff's Office has openings for Patrol Deputy Recruit - Academy Eligibility List. Join our team of dedicated professionals and embark on a rewarding career as a Patrol Deputy with the LCSO.

    This opportunity is intended for applicants without a Colorado POST Certification (Non-Certified). Candidates who are extended an offer of employment will have the opportunity to attend a POST Academy with tuition paid for by our Office, and will be paid by the LCSO while attending.

    *Offers from this eligibility list will be made to top candidates based on vacancies, funding, and academy seats available. This eligibility list does not guarantee that an open position will be come available within a year's time.

    Relocation Reimbursement - Applicants that are hired for any of our sworn positions and live more that 30 miles from LCSO, 2501 Midpoint Dr. Fort Collins, CO 80525, and move to Fort Collins or close surrounding areas, will receive relocation reimbursement of $2,500 on the first paycheck after being hired. Please note - this reimbursement is taxable.

    GI Bill - Applicants that are previous military and are GI Bill eligible may qualify to be reimbursed through your GI Bill during the training period for this position.
    Buddy Bonus - If you and a friend apply at the same time and are hired, you each receive $500 bonus after completing our mini-academy graduation. T his reimbursement is taxable.

    Responsibilities

    Salary Information:

    Recruits will spend several months in a classroom setting and will be paid at a non-certified rate of $34.31/hour ($78,506.69) until successfully receiving Colorado POST Certification. Once certification is complete, the wage will increase to $37.74/hour ($78,506.69) per hour and the duties and expectations will shift to Deputy-Certified. Then pay will follow the Deputy Certified Step Plan.
    Specifically, a Patrol Deputy :
    • Answers calls for service: completes appropriate paperwork; testify in court; resolve conflict; complete required training; communicate clearly with citizens and other law enforcement professionals; dispense information to those who need it.
    • Responsible for the protection of life and property; prevention of crimes; apprehension of criminals.
    • Enforces Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations.
    • Effects arrests under various circumstances.
    • Determines when there is a reasonable suspicion to detain, when probable cause exists to search and arrest, and when appropriate force may be used and to what degree.
    • Enforces laws and ordinances while protecting the rights of citizens.
    • Gathers information in criminal investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informers.

    Nonessential Functions
    • When a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of Commissioners, all Larimer County employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker.
    • Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Must be at least 21 years of age by date of hire.
    • First aid and community CPR certificates required within 12 weeks from date of hire.
    • Possession of a valid Driver's License required.
    • No criminal convictions as defined by Colorado P.O.S.T. required.

    In order to be considered, you must get a Letter of Support from your chain of command and submit the Letter of Support with your application . Please use the following process for your Letter of Support:
    Submit your Letter of Intent to your direct supervisor.
    Your direct supervisor will then write a Letter of Support and route that Letter of Support through your chain of command.
    Your next level supervisor/manager endorses your direct supervisor's Letter of Support.
    Your mid-level manager then endorses your Letter of Support.
    Your Division Commander then endorses your Letter of Support.
    Submit your fully endorsed Letter of Support along with your application.
    Applicants must meet all of the following:
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
    • Cannot have a felony conviction
    • No convictions involving domestic violence
    • No use of illegal drugs within the past five years
    • Must be 21 years of age by date of hire

    An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. Successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result. The Sheriff's Office prohibits possession of marijuana by employees under any circumstances and expects employees to comply with federal law.
