    This position will be located at the St. Louis Regional Office: 7545 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63125.

    • Conduct inspections of permitted scrap tire processing facilities, permitted scrap tire haulers, scrap tire retailers/collection centers, and hazardous waste generators.
    • Conduct investigations of hazardous waste generators and improper scrap tire management and disposal.
    • Write detailed inspection reports
    • Document violations and prepare cases for enforcement action
    • Recommend solutions to a range of different environmental problems
    • Provide technical assistance to businesses, government officials, and the public


    This position is required to obtain and maintain 40-hour HAZWOPER certification. If required and if you do not currently possess this certification, you will be given six months to obtain necessary certification.

    To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

    • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving - Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
    • Compliance Inspection - Knowledge of the guidelines, regulations, and procedures associated with compliance inquiries, including application of compliance rules and criteria and ability to make appropriate decisions and issue citations, fines, or orders.
    • Oral and Written Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, consider the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.


    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Physical Science, Geology, Engineering, Agronomy, Forestry, Soil Science, Ecology, Wildlife Management, Agriculture, Animal Science, Natural Resource Management, Soil Conservation, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or a closely related field from an accredited college, and 0 - 4 or more years of relevant experience.
