    POSITION OVERVIEW
    This position is responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing the information systems infrastructure, cloud architecture, and Enterprise Application architecture. The role provides advanced technical guidance on integrating complex existing and new technologies, including cloud platforms and services, ensuring that the Department of Aviation’s IT systems are scalable, secure, and future-ready to meet business needs. Additionally, this position drives the strategic adoption and implementation of hybrid cloud environments to achieve scalability, flexibility, and cost-efficiency, ensuring seamless integration between on-premises infrastructure and cloud-native solutions. The System Architect will lead efforts to transition key workloads to the cloud, optimize cloud-based services, and manage the multi-cloud or hybrid infrastructure, overseeing both traditional IT systems and cloud computing platforms. This role also directs the preparation, review, and monitoring of information systems capital budgets and business plans, ensuring alignment with both cloud infrastructure investments and the overarching IT infrastructure strategy.The System Architect plays a pivotal role in ensuring the department’s IT architecture is positioned for future growth and technological advancement, while also managing cloud security, compliance, and performance optimization.

    Position may require on-call or call back responsibilities.

    TRAVEL :

    VETERAN :

    ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL :
    This position is categorized as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work and in some cases when they are not scheduled.

    The top candidate will be subject to a minimum 10 year criminal background check and security threat assessment.

    Shift may change according to departmental needs; work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekend work.
    The Department of Aviation PIO team is primarily in-office. This position is allowed to work a maximum of 2 days per week working from home so long as business needs of the organization are met.

    Pay Range
    $48.38 - $62.90

    Hours
    Monday - Friday
    8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
    After 90 days of employment , 3 Days on-site with 2 remote days (Telework)
    Hours may change depending on departmental needs.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    Provides overall direction, guidance, and definition of technology architecture to effectively support business strategy. Develops the enterprise viewpoint, in which the business, information and technology viewpoints are synthesized into solutions that deliver capabilities to the broader City. Develops, reviews, and leads the implementation plan for the enterprise architecture based on requirements and strategies. Reviews existing processes and establishes metrics to improve processes, as well as support of all architectural disciplines under their direction. Leads analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on the enterprise architecture. Ensures the integration of all aspects of architecture across the City IT organization and alignment with business strategies, objectives, and capability needs. Leads the development of holistic blueprints in coordination with domain architects. Participates in the business strategic planning cycle, gaining an understanding of common issues, drivers, imperatives, and objectives across the enterprise. Coordinates with other plans and strategic partners, identifying opportunities for shared solutions. Provides architectural leadership, guidance, and support for the broader architectural community.

    • Knowledge of basic graphical modeling approaches, tools and model repositories.
    • Knowledge of information management practices, system development life cycle management, IT services management, agile and lean methodologies, infrastructure and operations, and EA and ITIL frameworks.
    • Knowledge of architecture methodologies (e.g., SABSA , Zachman, TOGAF ) and modeling languages (such as UML and ArchiMate).
    • Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), SOA , APIs, open data, microservices, event-driven IT and predictive analytics.

    City Government
